About BetMGM Sportsbook

There are few icons in gambling as recognizable as the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lion, and a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and the European gaming behemoth Entain Holdings brought BetMGM Sportsbook to the North American market outside of Nevada at the dawn of sports wagering's U.S. expansion.

BetMGM's mobile sportsbook is now live in Puerto Rico; Washington, D.C.; and the following 21 states: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana (except in parishes where betting is banned), Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

BetMGM also operates brick-and-mortar -- but not online -- sportsbooks in New Mexico, Oregon, and South Dakota, and Washington State. And while there is no statewide mobile betting in Mississippi or Washington State, BetMGM customers can place wagers from their phones anywhere on the property at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi and the Emerald Queen in Tacoma, respectively. Each of those casinos has a retail BetMGM Sportsbook as well.

Furthermore, with Missouri recently voting to legalize sports betting, there's a good chance BetMGM will set up shop in the Show Me State when sports wagering goes live.

Who can bet at BetMGM Sportsbook

While it's not necessary to live in the state in which you'd like to place a bet, it is essential that you be physically present in a legal jurisdiction to make an online wager. To this end, BetMGM uses cutting-edge geolocation technology to ensure that all bets are placed by valid BetMGM Sportsbook account holders in places where it's legal to wager.

Regardless of whether a state has a lower age minimum, you must be 21 years of age or older to wager on all BetMGM platforms, which include its sportsbook, mobile casino, and online horse-wagering and poker products.

Self-exclusion and cooling-off periods are valuable responsible gambling tools that allow you to set a time frame during which you will be banned from participating on a betting app in order to better control or take a break from online gambling. If you choose to opt into either of these voluntary blackout periods, you will not be allowed to log into your BetMGM Sportsbook account and place any wagers.

Funding your BetMGM Sportsbook account

To take advantage of any signup promotions or bonuses, bettors must first deposit money into their BetMGM accounts. This can be done through e-check, a prepaid Play+ card, debit or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover), PayPal, electronic transfer, PayNearMe, online bank transfer, MGM Rewards, BetMGM Gift Card, and Apple Pay.

Most, if not all, of the above methods can be used to withdraw money from your BetMGM Sportsbook account.

Featured BetMGM Sportsbook signup bonus: Up to $1,500 in bonus bets

BetMGM Sportsbook's welcome offer grants new customers first-bet insurance of up to $1,500 in bonus bets if their first bet loses.

The refund structure changes based on the amount of your first wager. Losing wagers of $49 or lower will yield a single bonus bet, while losing wagers of $50 or more will yield five bonus bets – each equal to 20% of your wager.

Bonus bets expire in seven days and are non-withdrawable, and you do not receive the value of the bonus bet back in your winnings. These details serve as a reminder that bettors should always carefully review terms and conditions. This goes for a specific promotion or a sportsbook at large, as each has its own unique set of rules.

BetMGM Rewards

BetMGM Sportsbook players automatically earn BetMGM Rewards points that can be redeemed for odds boosts and bet credits. But where BetMGM stands head and shoulders above many of its competitors is the multitude of ways in which these points can be earned -- and used for travel.

Account holders can earn BetMGM Rewards points by playing at BetMGM Sportsbook, BetMGM Casino, and BetMGM Poker. These points are combined into a single digital wallet and can not only be used toward stays at a plethora of MGM resorts around the world, but can also be exchanged for points -- and, in turn, free stays -- at Marriott Bonvoy properties.

BetMGM Sportsbook's wagering menu

BetMGM Sportsbook offers robust wagering markets for major athletic organizations and sports like the NBA, NCAA, NFL, NHL, MLB, MMA, WNBA, auto racing, boxing, golf, soccer, and tennis. It also offers a boatload of niche betting opportunities for sports like cricket, cycling, darts, handball, lacrosse, rugby, skiing, snooker, surfing, table tennis, volleyball, and water polo.

It's crucial for bettors to recognize that athletes are talented but fallible humans -- not human bet slips. To this end, some states have chosen to prioritize mental health over gambling flexibility by banning prop bets on individual collegiate players, while other states don't allow any wagering on competitions involving colleges located within their boundaries.

Wager Types

If you simply want to wager on your favorite team to win, you can bet the moneyline at BetMGM Sportsbook. Here, the potential payout depends on the moneyline odds for your chosen team to win. If the odds are -160, then you must wager $160 to win $100, or $16 to win $10. With odds of +160, that flips to requiring a bet of $100 to win $160, or $10 to win $16.

A potentially more lucrative way to bet on a favorite is through a spread bet. Let's say the Chiefs are favored by 2.5 points (-2.5) to beat the Ravens. If you bet on Kansas City to cover, Patrick Mahomes & Co. will need to win by a field goal or more. Conversely, if you're a Baltimore backer, the Ravens will need to either win outright or lose by fewer than three points to beat the spread.

An over/under -- or totals -- bet involves wagering on a team or both teams to score more or less than whatever the total set by the sportsbook is for the game. If BetMGM Sportsbook sets the total at 45.5 points for a college football game, a 24-22 result will reward over bettors, whereas a 23-22 final score will fatten the wallets of those who bet the under.

Prop bets focus on a specific statistical category involving a player or team that isn’t directly attached to the game's final outcome, like which player will score the first touchdown in a football game or whether Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns will snare 12 or more rebounds in a crosstown battle with the Brooklyn Nets.

American sports bettors can't seem to get enough of parlays, which package two or more wagers -- or legs -- into a single wager. A three-leg parlay might involve backing two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani to strike out five or more batters and homer at the plate while leading the Dodgers to a moneyline victory. Every leg of a parlay must be successful for it to cash.

Live bets -- also known as "in-game" or "in-play" bets -- have also gained momentum as Americans  seek out more exotic markets in which to wager. This type of wager involves betting on a game or outcomes within it after action commences, with odds fluctuating in real time based on what's transpiring. Microbetting is a subset of live wagering that involves things like the outcome of the next drive in a football game or which player will make the next three-pointer in a basketball game.

At the other end of the wagering patience spectrum are futures bets. If BetMGM Sportsbook sets the Golden State Warriors' season-long win total at 47.5 before the season starts and you promptly place a bet on them to win 48 or more, you can sit back for the duration of the NBA campaign as you slowly sweat out each and every game.

Special betting features at BetMGM Sportsbook

Entain's 2023 purchase of the sports data analytics company Angstrom Sports led to an improvement in pricing on the BetMGM Sportsbook app and dramatically increased the amount of wagering markets -- props and parlays, in particular -- for football, basketball, baseball, and hockey.

The enhanced BetMGM Sportsbook app also includes a feature called Same-Game Parlay+, where bettors can combine two separate SGPs to create one super parlay. Furthermore, BetMGM Sportsbook is the only legal sports betting app that allows Nevada bettors to wager in the state and then carry their funds in a single digital wallet to mobile jurisdictions elsewhere in the United States.

Retail BetMGM Sportsbook locations

As a legacy Las Vegas casino and entertainment brand, MGM has a long history of operating successful brick-and-mortar sportsbooks at properties like the Bellagio and MGM Grand, which allowed it to quickly create such venues throughout the United States when the Supreme Court cleared the way to do so in 2018. Plug-and-play BetMGM sportsbooks were opened at existing MGM properties in Michigan (MGM Grand Detroit), Maryland (MGM National Harbor), Massachusetts (MGM Springfield), Mississippi (Beau Rivage in Biloxi), and New Jersey (Borgata) as soon as those states legalized sports wagering.

In 2023, Arizona became the first state with legal sports betting to host a Super Bowl at State Farm Stadium. Not only is this the home of the NFL Cardinals, but it is also home to a 17,000-square-foot BetMGM sportsbook on the north end of the stadium's Great Lawn.

Not one to limit itself to football stadiums, BetMGM Sportsbook has retail operations at Nationals Park in D.C. and Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati, as well as the MGM Northfield Park racino near Cleveland.

MGM also owns Yonkers Raceway & Empire City Casino, a racino just north of New York City. It currently operates on a Class II gaming license but is a frontrunner to be granted a Class III license in the near future, which would allow it to offer table games and potentially a BetMGM sportsbook on premises.

BetMGM Customer Support

Befitting an industry that's regulated by each state instead of a set of overarching national standards, phone numbers for BetMGM Sportsbook's customer support representatives are particular to each legal jurisdiction, as are email addresses. While this approach may not be as convenient as, say, a single 1-800 number or email address, it does ensure that customers are directed to the BetMGM Sportsbook representatives who are best equipped to deal with local wagering issues.

BetMGM Sportsbook account holders can also receive assistance through 24/7 live chat on the mobile app and desktop interface, with additional tabs for help, customer care, FAQs, and terms and conditions.

Responsible gambling initiatives

BetMGM Sportsbook takes responsible gambling as seriously as any major sports betting operator. Not only does BetMGM have a responsible gambling leadership council that meets quarterly to chart the company's RG direction, but the operator is also a member of the Responsible Online Gaming Association, which promotes and funds RG education and awareness.

Furthermore, BetMGM partners with Kindbridge Behavioral Health to deliver mental health services to self-excluded or operator-excluded patrons in several legal gambling jurisdictions, and BetMGM Sportsbook has produced RG-focused video spots wherein star athletes convey the message that while gambling should be fun, it's important for every sports bettor to set and stick to certain limits.

BetMGM has also integrated the British Columbia Lottery Association's award-winning GameSense program into all of its gaming platforms, including BetMGM Sportsbook. GameSense provides every player with tools and support to make informed decisions and gamble responsibly. It also connects players with trained specialists, known as GameSense Advisors, and focuses on positive, transparent, and proactive communication to educate players about healthy habits and how to wager on sports in a manner that's fun, safe, and responsible.

Account holders at BetMGM Sportsbook who feel as though their gambling habits are getting out of control can opt into a cooling-off period or a more extended time frame of self-exclusion. If you ever feel like you aren't able to properly manage the amount of money or time you spend gambling, call 1-800-GAMBLER or a state hotline to get the help you need.
