Sarava, 2002, 70-1 odds. Sired by 1984 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Wild Again, Sarava began his racing career in England where he went winless as a 2-year-old. While he returned to the United States at the end of that year and rapidly improved over the course of the next racing season, he was still dismissed as a 70-1 longshot entering the 2002 Test of the Champion, with the favored War Emblem aiming for the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978. Sarava overcame the highest odds ever to win the Belmont by stalking the pace early and outdueling Medaglia d’Oro down the stretch in a race in which War Emblem was never a factor.
