Beach Bomb returned from a 119-day layoff to win the Grade 3 The Very One Stakes here March 1 in gate-to-wire fashion. The South African-bred mare will likely try similar tactics when she heads a field of seven entered to run 1 1/2 miles in the Grade 3, $165,000 Orchid Stakes.

Far Bridge had to utilize all his class and talent to outfight a determined upset-minded Corruption to win Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Pan American Stakes by a neck at Gulfstream Park.
Getting a horse ready to run 1 1/2 miles off an extended layoff would seem a challenging task. But Christophe Clement has made it look easy, at least when it comes to the Grade 3 Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. was hoping Saturday’s $165,000 Ghostzapper would be the perfect steppingstone, the perfect prep, for White Abarrio moving forward to the Grade 1 Met Mile later this spring at Saratoga And that’s exactly what the race turned out to be.
White Abarrio is generally considered to be one of top handicap horses in the world. But despite that distinction, his connections resisted the temptation to make the long journey to the Middle East and to instead compete for a prize of $165,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park in the Grade 3 Ghostzapper Stakes.

Five G was put on the lead early by rider Manny Franco and was never seriously challenged as she scored a 2 1/4-length victory in Saturday’s Grade 2, $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks to punch her ticket to the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs in five weeks.
With options that included the Grade 1 Ashland at Keeneland next week, Five G will stay home for Saturday's Grade 2, $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks, where she looks to be the one to beat in a likely six-horse field set to go 1 1/16 miles.

Implementation took advantage of hot pace and a clean trip under Manny Franco to win Saturday’s $150,000 Army Mule Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths at Gulfstream Park.
Movin’ On Up parlayed a perfect ground-saving trip into the first stakes victory of her career with a convincing three-length decision over Five Towns in Saturday’s $165,000 Sand Springs for older fillies and mares on the turf at Gulfstream Park.
Unplaced horses listed in order of finish:Also ran: Ocean Club, Be My Sunshine, In Our Time, Spinning Colors, Majestic Venezuela, Autumn Evening and Blind Spot
Seminole Chief was feeling so good Saturday morning that trainer Jack Sisterson had the horse gallop at the Palm Meadows training center before putting him on a van to Gulfstream Park for the Appleton Stakes later in the day.
In Saturday's $165,000 Appleton Stakes, going one mile over Gulfstream Park's turf course, trainer Mark Casse brings Ice Chocolat back to the races off a near 10-month layoff. The 7-year-old drew the outside post in an 11-horse field for his first start since he won the Grade 3 Poker at Saratoga last June.
Trainer Brad Cox didn’t hesitate when asked about his plans for Tappan Street moving forward following his second-place finish in the Grade 3 Holy Bull here on Feb. 1. He immediately declared his intention to skip the Fountain of Youth and train his lightly raced Kentucky Derby candidate up to the $1 million Florida Derby eight weeks later.
Despite a less than desirable post-position draw and the loss of his regular rider due to injury earlier in the week, Sovereignty is expected to go postward a solid choice to add Saturday's $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park to his victory here four weeks earlier in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth.
Manny Franco, currently the leading rider at Aqueduct’s winter meet, has picked up the mount on morning-line favorite Sovereignty for Saturday’s Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park, trainer Bill Mott said Tuesday afternoon.
