Benefiting from a cagey ride by Shannon Beauregard, Zuri Mwana cruised to a 4 3/4- length win over Test Boy in the $50,000 Spangled Jimmy Handicap for 3-year-olds and up at Northlands Park Saturday. Zuri Mwana broke sharply from his outside post in the five-horse field, and after Beauregard hustled him to the lead and gained the rail, she had him under complete control as he set moderate fractions of 25 and 50.20 seconds. Zuri Mwana opened up a five-length lead at the top of the stretch and was in hand the rest of the way. Diamond Doc pressed the early pace and then held on to finish third. Final time for the one-mile feature was 1:38.40. The 9-5 favorite Teagues Fight made a bid from off the pace at the quarter pole but couldn't make any impact into the slow fractions and finished fourth. A 4-year-old California-bred gelding, Zuri Mwana earned $30,000 for his owners, Ken and Joan Amthor. He is trained by Gordon Amthor.
