Zia Park is gearing up for its three most important race dates of the meet, which continues through Dec. 18. The Zia Park Derby card of seven stakes worth $1.1 million is set for a Tuesday program on Nov. 26. The build-up to the Land of Enchantment card will include the $1.1 million New Mexico Classic Cup Quarter Horse Showcase of seven stakes Nov. 24 and the $1.3 million New Mexico Classic Cup card of eight Thoroughbred stakes Nov. 25. Purses at the current meet – which features Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses – are a New Mexico record $350,000 a day, according to Chris McErlean of Penn Entertainment, the parent company of Zia.
