Woods N Water will be getting some downtime following his win in the $75,000 Louisiana Cup Turf Classic on Aug. 5 at Louisiana Downs and could return to the races this fall at Fair Grounds, according to trainer Lee Thomas. Woods N Water was winning his second turf stakes from four career starts on the grass in the Louisiana Cup. He is now 3 for 4 overall on turf, with his lone loss coming by a head in the $60,000 John Henry against open company in July at Evangeline Downs. Woods N Water moved to the grass for the first time in May. Thomas said the horse will now be considered for the Louisiana Champions Day Turf or the Claiming Crown, both late in the year at Fair Grounds. “We’ll talk to the owners and see what direction we go in,” Thomas said. But for now, Woods N Water will get a freshening. :: Bet the races with a $250 First Deposit Match + $10 Free Bet and FREE Formulator PPs! Hopefully, he comes back and continues to perform well down the road.” Woods N Water is a 4-year-old son of Palace who races for his co-breeder, Richard Painter, and Dewberry Farm. The horse is 7 for 19 for earnings of more than $240,000. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 83 for his win in the Louisiana Cup. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
