ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Woodbine canceled Sunday’s card as a precautionary measure over concerns about the safety of the synthetic Tapeta surface following a spat of injuries on Saturday. The last two races on Saturday's card, including the Autumn Stakes, were not run. Woodbine management made the decision after consulting with the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association of Ontario, the Jockeys' Guild, and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Woodbine is performing track maintenance and plans to meet with Tapeta consultants. :: Bet with the Best! "In consultation with our industry partners, we have decided to take these precautionary steps to ensure that the track conditions meet the highest safety standards. Woodbine has long been recognized as one of the safest racetracks in North America, and we are committed to maintaining that reputation by thoroughly assessing and addressing any issues." There were three catastrophic breakdowns on Saturday, beginning with a worker shortly after the renovation break at 8 a.m. Social Dancer was injured on the backstretch in the second race. Owen’s Tour Guide fell on the far turn in the eighth, the Grade 3 Bessarabian. The Grade 3 Autumn has been rescheduled for Saturday and goes as-is. Race 10 from Saturday and all races from Sunday will be offered as canceled race carryovers for Friday.
