ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Woodbine canceled the remainder of the program after the fifth race on Saturday’s King’s Plate Card due to unsafe track conditions. The $1 million Plate is expected to be run next Friday, along with the other four stakes that were to be contested Saturday.  A torrential rainstorm blew through the area after the first race was at 12:25 p.m. Shortly after, all the turf races on the card were moved to the Tapeta, which continued to take considerable rain throughout the afternoon, causing drainage problems and flooding in the tunnels to the track. “We were following the weather all day,” said Woodbine Entertainment CEO Michael Copeland. “When it got too late in the day, so much rain had come down in such a short time and there was pooling in the track. There were some safety concerns, so we consulted with our vets and jockeys and we made the determination that it was unsafe to continue racing.  “We’re going to carry over the four stakes races and the King’s Plate and reschedule them for Friday. It will be a spectacular card. Everybody who attended and bought a ticket will get a communication very shortly with more information.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
