SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Breeders’ Cup Classic winner White Abarrio drew post 6 in a field of six older horses set to contest the historic Grade 1 Met Mile on the Belmont Stakes undercard Saturday at Saratoga. White Abarrio, the 6-5 favorite on New York Racing Association linemaker David Aragona’s morning line, will face a field in the $1 million Met Mile that includes, from the rail out, Castle Chaos, National Treasure, Post Time, Blazing Sevens, and Hoist the Gold. National Treasure, winner of the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park to start his 2024 campaign, is the 8-5 second choice on Aragona’s line. White Abarrio will look to rebound from a disappointing sixth-place finish when beaten more than 15 lengths by Senor Buscador as the heavy favorite in the rich Saudi Cup on Feb. 24.  He will be returning to the scene of one of his most memorable performances 10 months earlier, a 6 1/4-length victory at Saratoga in the Grade 1 Whitney. :: Bet the Belmont Stakes with confidence! Irad Ortiz Jr. will again have the call on White Abarrio, who has been training in sensational fashion for trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. in recent weeks over the Belmont training track. National Treasure also has been idle since competing in the Saudi Cup, where he finished fourth, just 1 1/2 lengths behind  Senor Buscador, who he had defeated four weeks earlier in the Pegasus World Cup. National Treasure finished a well-beaten fifth over a sloppy track in his only previous start at Saratoga in the 2023 Travers. The Met Mile also reunites the first two finishers from the 2023 Preakness, National Treasure and Blazing Sevens. Blazing Sevens has started just twice since that race and comes into the Met Mile after returning from a nine-month hiatus with a one-length allowance victory April 20 at Aqueduct. “The horse came back after his long rest in good shape,” trainer Chad Brown said of Blazing Sevens shortly after the draw. “It was a pleasant surprise how well he came back. It’s going to be a tough race, with a short field, but he seems to be doing as well as he was going into the Preakness.” :: DRF Belmont Stakes Packages: Save up to 52% on PPs, Clocker Reports, Betting Strategies, and more Brown also loves the distance for Blazing Sevens, who he said ran his best race going a mile as a 2-year-old in the Champagne. “Obviously coming out of the chute it’s a very unique mile race, but I like where he’s drawn,” Brown added. “From there, he should get a good look, but he’s going to have to run his best.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
