Welder rebuffed a stretch challenge from Tiz Alluptome Now to win the $150,000 David M. Vance for the second year in a row Sunday at Remington Park. The winner covered six furlongs in a stakes-record time of 1:08.13. Welder ($2.60) set a pressured pace along the rail, leading through an opening quarter in 21.74 seconds and a half-mile in 44.15. Welder had more in the stretch when Tiz Alluptome Now made a run at him, and went on to a 3 1/4-length victory over that one. It was another 4 1/2 lengths back to D’Rapper in third. Welder came into the Vance off a three-length allowance win in which he covered six furlongs in 1:08.74 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 100. “The way he ran last time, I knew he was going to be very strong again today,” said David Cabrera, the regular rider of Welder. Welder, the reigning Oklahoma-bred of the Year, was winning the 12th stakes race of his career. He is a son of The Visualiser who races for Ra-Max Farms. Trainer Theresa Luneack said the horse would be pointed for next month’s Oklahoma Classics Sprint at Remington. Welder, who earned $99,000 for the win, improved his career record to 19 for 29 for earnings of $850,998. A second stakes for Cabrera The Vance was the second stakes win on the card for Cabrera, who captured the $75,000 Kip Deville for 2-year-olds when Fly to the Bank snuck through on the rail for a 1 3/4-length victory over pacesetter Pickens.  Fly to the Bank ($21.20) was always prominent, tracking Pickens through fractions of 21.60 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.66 for the half-mile. The winner went on to cover six furlongs in 1:09.81. Fly to the Bank is now 2 for 2, having won his debut earlier this month at Remington. He is a son of Euroears who is owned by his breeder and trainer, Jim Helzer. Asmussen wins eighth Ricks Memorial Remington leading trainer Steve Asmussen won the $75,000 Ricks Memorial for the eighth time in his career when Area rallied past her rivals in the stretch in the 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares. She won by 2 3/4 lengths over Little Code, who also is trained by Asmussen. Area ($8.40) trailed early as Kram took the field through an opening quarter in 24.47 seconds and a half-mile in 48.96. Area advanced, picked off horses in the stretch, and went on to cover the distance on firm ground in 1:42.30. Ricardo Santana Jr., was aboard and the win was his fourth on the day for Asmussen. One race later, the men picked up their fifth on the card when they won an allowance with Golden Driller, then a sixth with Lady Apple in the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks.  Area is a daughter of Street Sense who races for Alex and JoAnn Lieblong. She was winning her first stakes in the Ricks Memorial.
