HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The 4-year-old filly Warm Heart will look to close her career on a winning note while the undefeated colt Integration seeks to set the table for a big 4-year-old campaign when the two head a full field in Saturday’s Grade 1, $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational at Gulfstream Park. Warm Heart, trained by Aidan O’Brien for the Coolmore connections, is stopping in Florida to try and get one more Grade 1 victory before she is bred to Justify in Kentucky in the coming months. Warm Heart, a daughter of Galileo, won the Yorkshire Oaks and the Prix Vermeille – both Group 1s in Europe – before finishing second, beaten a neck by Inspiral, in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita in November. After returning home to England, Warm Heart shipped to Hong Kong, where she finished third in the Group 1 Vase, a race run with a tepid pace. Though most of Warm Heart’s success has been at distances from 1 1/4 miles to 1 1/2 miles, O’Brien believes “she’s tactically quick enough” to be successful at this 1 1/8-mile distance. The Gulfstream Park turf course is quite firm, but O’Brien believes that is fine for Warm Heart. “We always felt fast ground would suit her well,” said O’Brien, who sent out the mare Magic Wand to runner-up finishes in this race in 2019 and 2020. “We wouldn’t have gone over if we didn’t think she was doing well. She came out of Hong Kong very well, that’s why we thought about taking on this race.” :: Bet with the Best! Get FREE All-Access PPs and Weekly Cashback when you wager on DRF Bets. Warm Heart was on the Gulfstream main track Thursday morning for a jog and a gallop and pleased her exercise rider, Rachel Richardson. “She’s settled in really well. She’s very relaxed. She’s very calm and stable. We’re very happy with her,” Richardson said. Ryan Moore will ride Warm Heart from post 9. Integration went 3 for 3 as a 3-year-old in 2023 with emphatic victories in the Grade 3 Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs and Grade 2 Hill Prince at Aqueduct. Those victories came 10 weeks apart, and he has the same spacing leading to Saturday’s race. “The time in between always helps,” trainer Shug McGaughey said. “We came up there to run in the Hill Prince with a lot of confidence. We were very pleased with the way he ran and the way he came out of it. We’re kind of thrilled to have a horse of that caliber.” McGaughey said Integration displayed versatility coming from seventh in the Virginia Derby and third in the Hill Prince. “I think he’ll do whatever you want him to do,” said McGaughey, who has Tyler Gaffalione to ride Integration from post 3. Webslinger is a horse that figures to do his best running late, and he rarely fails to fire. He was beaten a neck by Program Trading in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby on Dec. 2 at Del Mar in his ninth and final start as a 3-year-old and is coming right back for more in this spot. “He just needs things to work out for him a little bit,” trainer Mark Casse said. “Last time, that horse got away from him a little bit. Unfortunately, he is at the mercy of others. He gets in trouble. He comes away from there nonchalant and loses position and is always trying to catch up.” Main Event, the front-running winner of the Fort Lauderdale here Dec. 30, is the horse everyone will be trying to catch. He will likely be sent away by Javier Castellano from post 11. Kingmax and Jerry the Nipper, second and third, respectively, behind Main Event, are back in this race. Jerry the Nipper, trained by Todd Pletcher, gets blinkers added. :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports I’m Very Busy, second to Integration in the Hill Prince, and Adhamo, the Grade 1 United Nations winner of 2022, represent trainer Chad Brown, who won this race in 2019 with Bricks and Mortar. Master Piece, seventh in this race last year, is coming off a win in the Grade 2 Red Smith at Aqueduct in November. Sydney “Chip” Dutrow will be the trainer of record as trainer Rick Dutrow still has to go through the process of being licensed in Florida. Atone won last year’s Pegasus Turf for trainer Mike Maker, but went winless in his next six starts. A 3-1 shot last year, Atone figures a much higher price Saturday. “Got his work cut out,” Maker said. “Lot tougher group this year.” Shirl’s Speight, runner-up to Master of The Seas in the Woodbine Mile last September, and Catnip, unraced since finishing eighth in the Grade 1 Arlington Million in August, complete the body of the field. Grand Sonata and Anglophile are on the also-eligible list and also are entered in the Grade 3 William L. McKnight, which goes as race 8 on Saturday’s card. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
