LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two-time Eclipse champion Monomoy Girl has been sidelined for an indefinite period with minor muscle strains and hamstring soreness, according to information sent via email Friday to the 6-year-old mare’s micro-owners in MyRacehorse. The email said Monomoy Girl will be given time off before returning to the races later this year for trainer Brad Cox. The email said in part that Monomoy Girl “didn't bounce out of her gutsy second-place finish in last month’s Grade 1 Apple Blossom as quickly as we would have hoped,” further adding there are no serious physical issues. Monomoy Girl will be turned out at WinStar Farm and will begin swimming in about two weeks. Based at Churchill Downs with Cox, she had not breezed since the April 17 Apple Blossom at Oaklawn Park. :: Join DRF Bets and get ready to watch and wager on the Preakness with a $250 first deposit bonus  Monomoy Girl was voted the champion 3-year-old of 2018 and the top filly or mare on dirt in 2020. She has finished first in all but two of 17 starts, with her nose defeat to Letruska in the Apple Blossom just the second of those; she also was disqualified from first in the 2018 Cotillion. Her earnings stand at $4,776,818. After winning the Breeders’ Cup Distaff last November at Keeneland, Monomoy Girl was sold at Fasig-Tipton the following evening by her multi-tiered owner partnership, with the Spendthrift Farm of B. Wayne Hughes acquiring her for $9.5 million. Spendthrift subsequently sold shares in the mare to Madaket Stables and MyRacehorse. Spendthrift and MyRacehorse had a similar arrangement last year when Authentic won the Kentucky Derby and BC Classic.
