A $1.1 million Good Magic filly and a $1 million Independence Hall colt led the way as the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March sale of 2-year-olds in training posted continued gains in the average on Wednesday. OBS reported that 143 horses sold in the second of three sessions overall for gross receipts of $22,998,500. Last year's comparable second of three sessions generated $23,976,000 from 156 sold. After Tuesday's opening session posted a 4 gain in the average, Wednesday saw a 5 percent gain in the category, to $160,829 from $153,692. The median did dip 6 percent, to $70,000 from $75,000. It had been up 42 percent on Tuesday. The session's buyback rate was 18 percent, compared to 26 percent. The session-topping Good Magic filly was purchased by agents John Kimmel and Nick Sallusto, on behalf of owner Sean Flanagan. The agents had been the underbidders on a $1 million Maxfield colt who led Tuesday's opening session.  :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Her physical attributes are something where if you could produce offspring that look like her, she’ll be a hell of a broodmare. I’ve had many good fillies over the years and this filly exudes that kind of quality.” Good Magic quickly established himself among the nation's elite sires by producing classic winners in his first two crops, with 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage and 2024 Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch. This filly, consigned by Top Line Sales, as agent, is out of the unraced Street Cry mare Rose Mine, dam of one winner from three starters. Eclipse Award champion Escena appears on the catalog page. The Good Magic filly and the Independence Hall colt who joined her in the seven-figure club had both worked a furlong in 9 4/5 seconds on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack during last week's under-tack preview show. This duo, and the Maxfield colt who led Tuesday's session, were among a logjam of 40 juveniles tied for the second-fastest time at the distance. The Independence Hall colt, from the first crop of his sire, was purchased by JPM Bloodstock from the consignment of agent Eddie Woods. Trainer Mark Glatt, who will condition the colt on the racetrack, was on hand. “It makes me nervous [with a first-crop sire] because you never know which way they’re going to go, but we looked up [Independence Hall] and he ran very, very fast – he was consistently fast in all his races,” Glatt said. “At these 2-year-old sales, you’re here to buy the best athlete you possibly can. You look at the pedigree, but we’re here to buy what we think are the best athletes.” The colt is out of the stakes-placed Harlan's Holiday mare Orecchiette, dam of two winners from as many starters.
