Twisted Ride, the longest shot on the tote, dug in resolutely under Ruben Silvera to nip Smarten Up in Tuesday's City of Brotherly Love Stakes at Parx. The 1 1/16-mile City of Brotherly Love was one of four $100,000 stakes for 3-year-olds on the program, along with the Main Line for fillies at a mile and 70 yards, the Society Hill for fillies at six furlongs, and the Rittenhouse Square at six furlongs. The City of Brotherly Love was reduced to a field of three after Epic Luck, Noneedtoworry, Constitutionlawyer, and Beast Or Famine scratched. Favored on the tote were Courvoisier and Smarten Up, the one-two finishers in Aqueduct’s Jerome Stakes on New Year’s Day. Both were looking to rebound after placing seventh and sixth, respectively, in the Grade 3 Withers on Feb. 5. Twisted Ride, trained by Kathleen DeMasi for Kasey K Racing Stable, Michael Day, and Final Turn Racing Stable, was a bit fractious before the start, but caught a flier at the break and made the lead going into the first turn. Flanked from the rail by Smarten Up and from the outside by odds-on Courvoisier, Twisted Ride set fractions of 24.62 and 49.36 seconds. Courvoisier was first to come off the bridle and that left Smarten Up and Twisted Ride to decide the outcome. :: Take your handicapping to the next level and play like a pro with free Formulator, DRF's premium data product They came together and banged off each other turning into the stretch with Smarten Up’s rider, Anthony Salgado, appearing to momentarily lose his balance after the incident. Smarten Up and Twisted Ride then resumed their battle for the remainder with Twisted Ride getting home a nose in front after 1:47.58. Smarten Up was 9 3/4 lengths clear of Courvoisier. Salgado lodged a jockey’s objection against Silvera, but it was dismissed by the stewards. Twisted Ride returned $10.60 to win. There was no place and show wagering. Twisted Ride is a Pennsylvania-bred gelding by Great Notion.  He finished third behind Scaramouche in his career debut, a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Parx on Jan. 31. Scaramouche captured the Rittenhouse Square earlier on the card. In his final prep for the City of Brother Love, Twisted Ride won a Pennsylvania-bred maiden special weight traveling a mile at Parx on Feb. 22. Main Line Stakes Morning Matcha ($2.20) lived up to her billing as the overwhelming betting favorite with a last-to-first victory in the Main Line. After the defections of Bazinga C, Champagne Poetry, Eighty Eighty Keys, and Early Glow, the Main Line scratched down to a four-horse field and Morning Matcha towered over them on paper. Off a bit slow under Frankie Pennington, Morning Matcha settled at the back as stablemate Skerrett set fractions of 23.82 and 48.46 seconds. Skerrett led them to the quarter pole before Mia Tosca advanced from the outside. Mia Tosca's hopes were fleeting, however, as Pennington wheeled Morning Matcha three wide and they burst to the front at the three-sixteenths. Morning Matcha was soon clear and geared down under the wire to prevail by 6 3/4 lengths in 1:44.63 seconds. Beach Daze, the longest shot on the board at 11-1, rallied for second, three lengths clear of Mia Tosca. Skerrett faltered to last. Trained by Butch Reid for the partnership LC Racing, Cash Is King, and Gary Barber, Morning Matcha earned four Kentucky Oaks points in her prior start, a runner-up effort behind favored Magic Circle in the Busanda at Aqueduct on Jan. 23. She has never been off the board in nine races and earned stakes-placings last year at both Presque Isle Downs and Aqueduct. All three of her victories have come at Parx. Society Hill Stakes Kisses for Emily entered the Society Hill a maiden and exited a stakes winner. Pace makes the race and the filly benefited from a blistering early duel to rally past the exhausted leaders in the stretch. Piloted by Dylan Davis for trainer Louis Linder Jr., Kisses for Emily was completely outsprinted as Disco Ebo and Starship Laoban lobbed bombs at each other through sizzling splits of 22.16 and 45.76 seconds. Starship Laoban eventually got the better of the pace scrum, but Davis had maneuvered Kisses for Emily to the inside at the five-sixteenths pole before angling out turning into the stretch. They had dead aim on Starship Laoban and ran past to prevail by a length in 1:13.29. Starship Laoban was a game second, 4 1/2 lengths ahead than 9-10 favorite Disco Ebo. It was another three back to Perfect Direction and Martini's Amica.  Morning-line favorite Rosebug, Phancy Philly, Princess Emma Jo, Our Uptown Girl, Buff My Boots, and Argentina Girl all scratched. Kisses for Emily returned $13.60 as the third choice in the betting. Kisses for Emily is the first stakes winner sired by Union Jackson and began her career with five unsuccessful starts against New York-bred maiden special weight company. She was conditioned by John Toscano Jr. for her first three races before being transferred to Linder at the end of 2021. Kisses for Emily was third, beaten 3 1/2 lengths, in a six-furlong event at Aqueduct on Feb. 19. Owned by Bran Jam Stable and David Clark, Kisses for Emily was bred by Sequel Stallions and Lakland Farm. Rittenhouse Square Stakes Scaramouche gave a promising performance when wiring the field in the Rittenhouse Square. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures A gelded son of Munnings ridden by Silvestre Gonzalez, Scaramouche stumbled at the start, but quickly recovered to battle for the early lead outside of Uncaptured Spirit. Those two cleared off on the backstretch through a quarter of 22.17 seconds as favored Dance Code sat raced third in the catbird's seat. Uncaptured Spirit backed away from his rail position to ease outside Scaramouche following a half-mile in 45.99 with Dance Code three wide and under a hard ride. Scaramouche still had plenty in the tank, however, and he drew away from rail-skimming Cuneo in the final sixteenth. The winner completed the distance in 1:11.54 seconds and paid $11.80 as the fourth choice. Cuneo, a 30-1 chance, finished 5 1/2 lengths behind in second with Uncaptured Spirit another three-quarters back in third. Then came Dance Code, Jamie Dreams, Practical Coach, Talented Man, and Southern Runner. Ready to March and Uncle Buddywere scratched. Trained by Guadalupe Preciado for Nicholas Cammarano Jr., Scaramouche made his third lifetime start in the Rittenhouse Square. He finished fifth, beaten 13 lengths in his only race at 2, a maiden special weight at Parx on Dec. 22. Treated with Lasix for the first time in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Parx on Jan. 31, Scaramouche graduated by five lengths with a 69 Beyer Speed Figure.
