ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Tunechi appears to be rounding into form and will go back to the Tapeta in Friday’s headliner at Woodbine. The 1 1/16-mile event for nonwinners of two combines Ontario-sired allowance stock with $40,000 claimers and goes as the seventh race on an eight-race card. A 3-year-old trained by Barbara Minshall, Tunechi notched a maiden-special turf sprint in his third start at 2 before finishing a respectable fourth behind Carson’s Run and future Canadian champion 2-year-old My Boy Prince in the Grade 1 Summer. Tunechi’s lone try over a route of ground on the Tapeta was a good one in the Grade 3 Grey last November. The son of Outwork fought for the lead through the middle fractions before fading late to fourth behind stablemate Two Ghosts and Piper’s Factor. Tunechi’s first three races this year, including two stakes engagements, were disappointing. When dropped to this level in a one-mile inner turf race Sept. 13, he rallied from off a fast pace to finish a close third with a 71 Beyer Speed Figure. The race contained two next-out winners, most notably British Artillery, who romped at the same level with a 91 Beyer. From post 2, Emma-Jayne Wilson will ride Tunechi again for Hoolie Racing Stable and partners. Allegorical is the lone runner in the eight-horse field who’s not competing for the $40,000. The 5-year-old is returning from a year and a half layoff and was on the early Queen’s Plate trail in 2022 before things went awry. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Allegorical has been working regularly since July, including a six-furlong breeze in 1:12.60 on Sept. 28, and might not need a start. Rebelious could go favored off a stalking third last time out where he earned a big but seemingly inflated 78 Beyer. The winner of that event, Myra’s Boy, finished a well-beaten fifth as the favorite in a subsequent allowance with a $50,000 claiming option for 3-year-olds. Rebelious, who was claimed from his debut for $25,000 at Oaklawn Park in April, found his calling as a Tapeta router here during the summer under the guidance of trainer Norm McKnight. Sahin Civaci takes over, and the meet’s leading rider has a win and a second from three mounts this year for the barn. There are three fillies in the lineup – Good as Gone, Anita Margarita, and Brave Kate. The former Santa Anita runner Good as Gone has been competitive in all four of her starts this meet for owner-trainer Nick Nosowenko. The daughter of Nyquist is exiting her best local performance, a chalky second against her own sex on the inner turf under Kazushi Kimura. Also entered are Proud Ronin and Cabernaydo, who beat two next-out winners while graduating against Ontario-sired and $40,000 maidens on the inner course Sept. 15. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
