Tumbarumba, the narrow winner of the Grade 3 Fred Hooper on Jan. 27, came out of the race in good order and will point to the Grade 2, $200,000 Gulfstream Park Mile on March 2, trainer Brian Lynch said Friday. The Fred Hooper, which Tumbarumba won by a nose over Castle Chaos, came seven weeks after he had finished second to Touchuponastar in a Louisiana-bred stakes at Fair Grounds. Touchuponastar has won 10 of 13 starts. “He’s had that little bit of a break since the Fair Grounds hoping this would be a good start to a 4-year-old campaign and he’s really bounced out of this race really well,” Lynch said. “If he needed that race a little bit, then he’s really come on from it and I think his next one will be even better.” :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports Meanwhile, Lynch plans to be represented in both turf sprint stakes next weekend at Gulfstream Park. On Saturday, Lynch will send out the 8-year-old gelding Carotari, a six-time stakes winner, in the $125,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint at five furlongs. On Sunday, Lynch runs the 4-year-old filly Stone Silent in the $100,000 Ladies’ Turf Sprint, also at five furlongs. Carotari will likely get a rematch with Kanthari to whom he finished second in an allowance race at Gulfstream on Jan. 5. That was Carotari’s first start off a 5 1/2-month layoff. “He hadn’t run in a good while. I felt like he’s come on from that race the other day,” Lynch said. “He goes into it in very good order.” Stone Silent won the Abundantia Stakes on Dec. 31 in his first start for Lynch. On Friday, Stone Silent worked five furlongs in 57.60 seconds over a firm Palm Meadows turf course. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
