ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Treason ($14.60) beat a deep field of older runners while notching his first stakes in Sunday’s Grade 2, $178,600 Eclipse Stakes at Woodbine. Treason attended the pace from a three-wide position before assuming command from War Bomber and the heavily favored Wolfie’s Dynaghost on the far turn. Carrothers rallied into second through the stretch while laying in a little before Treason dug in to win by 1 1/2 lengths, in a time of 1:43.09 over 1 1/16 miles. Treason earned $105,000 for the partnership of LNJ Foxwoods and MSK Racing Ventures. Kazushi Kimura rode the son of Constitution for trainer Josie Carroll, who also sent out third-place finisher Tyson. “I knew that Treason had a little bit higher cruising speed than (Tyson),” Carroll said. “But they were both going to be right there. They both relaxed and didn’t pressure each other. I think (Tyson) is a little bit inexperienced. He’s going to improve off this. Treason’s just a good horse. We thought he was a good horse from the beginning, and he just proved himself today.” :: Bet the races on DRF Bets! Conglomerate, War Bomber, Rondure, Avoman, Bringer of Rain and Luckman completed the order of finish. *** Unbeaten front-runner Reload’s Rascal missed the break in Sunday’s $101,500 Pink Lloyd Stakes, which enabled Rockcrest to secure an easy lead en route to a comfortable score in the six-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired stock. Rockcrest ($14.80) set moderate fractions under Keveh Nicholls and had a 4 1/2-length lead entering the stretch before coasting home on top by two lengths, in a time of 1:09.68. Favored Candy Overload rallied strongly for second, while Last American Exit outran Reload’s Rebel for third in the 11-horse field. “Once he left there running and got the lead easy, there was no one around to really pressure him,” Nicholls said. “He was really relaxed. I was smiling from there.” Rockcrest, a son of Pink Lloyd’s sire, Old Forester, earned $60,000 for owner/trainer Nigel Burke. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
