At 1 1/8 miles, the Grade 3 Boiling Springs at Monmouth Park on Sunday will make full use of the track’s turf course. It begins at the top of the infield chute and proceeds to make more than a lap of the main course. That type of trip perfectly suits the running styles of Tin Type Gal and Galileo’s Song. The question is, who will set the pace, and will there be enough of it to set up the two best-looking late runners in the field? The Boiling Springs, a $100,000 race for 3-year-old fillies, drew a field of eight, but Thundering Sky was scheduled to run in Friday’s Grade 2 Lake George at Saratoga. The most likely pacesetter is Miss Inclusive, who will be making her turf debut for John Servis. Although Verbouwen is not overly quick, she does have tactical speed and could find herself involved early in this paceless lineup. Like Galileo’s Song, Verbouwen is trained by Chad Brown. Tin Type Gal, scratched from the Lake George in favor of this spot, will be making her second start of the season following a layoff of more than eight months. She showed last from the gate June 19 in the Wild Applause at Belmont Park and then raced very wide on the far turn of the one-mile race. She finished fifth, beaten only two lengths, in an effort that was better than it looks on paper. She should take a step forward with that race behind her. Galileo’s Song has raced monthly since debuting at Gulfstream Park in early April. She quickened nicely in the stretch to win her last start, a first-level optional claimer, getting her final quarter-mile of the 1 1/4-mile race in less than 23 seconds over yielding ground. Boiling Springs, Race 8 Key Contenders Galileo’s Song, by Galileo Last 3 Beyers: 84-83-78 ◗ She may have a bit more acceleration than Tin Type Gal, which would be an advantage if the early pace is indeed slow. Tin Type Gal, by Tapit Last 3 Beyers: 82-79-75 ◗ She closed out her 2-year-old season by winning the Grade 3 Miss Grillo at Belmont Park in September. The slow-early, quicker-late fractions of her comeback race did not work in her favor. Miss Inclusive, by Include Last 3 Beyers: 67-67-83 ◗ She has flattened out and finished fourth in her last two starts, the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks, run over a very sloppy track, and the Our Mims, both at Delaware Park. Dark Nile, the winner of both races, is now 4 for 5 in her career. Verbouwen, by Kitten’s Joy Last 3 Beyers: 75-79-77 ◗ Backed up in the stretch of the $200,000 Wonder Again at Belmont Park last out. She faces easier here, gets leading rider Paco Lopez, and may be able to adjust to a slow pace better than her stablemate or Tin Type Gal.
