ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Tapit Kissit Winit won his abbreviated debut nicely, and the blue-blooded Tapit colt extends to a more suitable distance in Thursday’s Woodbine opener, a one-mile allowance for 2-year-olds on the inner turf. Tapit Kissit Winit outran two Mark Casse-trained stablemates in an impressive gate work Sept. 5, covering a half-mile in 48 seconds under Patrick Husbands. The Live Oak Plantation homebred debuted just three days later in a five-furlong inner turf dash during which he rallied from fourth to prevail in a quick clocking. He’s adding Lasix to his arsenal on Thursday with Husbands back riding. Live Oak has been among the most successful owners at the meet, having won two Grade 1s on Sept. 14, the Woodbine Mile with Win for the Money and the Natalma with And One More Time. For Thursday, Casse also entered Runner Eyes for M Racing Group. A $300,000 weanling purchase, the son of super dirt sire Gun Runner was promoted from second to first after getting slammed in late stretch when debuting in a one-mile maiden special on the grass Aug. 23 at Colonial Downs. Runner Eyes is picking up Lasix and the meet’s leading jockey, Sahin Civaci. Going back five years, Casse has won at a 15 percent clip with second-out 2-year-olds exiting a debut score, with a return on investment of 74 cents. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! The son of Collected has done his best running sprinting on the main turf, including a third over good ground in the Aug. 23 Soaring Free Stakes. A hot Ryan Munger will be back aboard Coolcollected for Colebrook Farms and trainer Patrick Dixon. Trainer Jonathan Thomas’s Turfway Park shippers have been deadly at the meet, and he’s sending out third-time starter Lazlo for the partnership of Panic Stables and John Youngblood. Lazlo was never in contention at first asking in a one-mile maiden special over the undulating Kentucky Downs course on Sept. 1. Just eight days later at Horseshoe Indianapolis, the son of English Channel beat $40,000 maidens with ease after a troubled trip going 7 1/2 furlongs on the grass. Lazlo was gelded after earning his diploma and is picking up Lasix and second-leading rider Rafael Hernandez for this acid test. Sol de Verano won one of the first baby races of the meet in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special in May for trainer Nathan Squires. Two months later in the 5 1/2-furlong Victoria Stakes, another Tapeta dash, he faded from a stalking position to trail a six-horse field. Sol de Verano is by freshman sire Thousand Words, whose offspring are 1 for 18 on the grass. There’s not much turf breeding in his immediate female family, either. Completing the field is Golden Test, who’s moving up off a $25,000 maiden victory and a claim by trainer Denyse McClachire. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
