LEXINGTON, Ky. – In a six-furlong race that on paper appeared to be top-heavy with early speed, Super Chow simply proved himself fastest of the fast with a front-running romp Saturday in the $200,000 Bowman Mill, the first of three stakes on closing day of the Keeneland fall meet. Trainer Jorge Delgado and jockey Chantal Sutherland, who have become one of the more high-profile tandems on the year-round South Florida circuit, teamed for the five-length rout in the six-furlong Bowman Mill. “He’s really fast,” said Sutherland, the well-traveled rider whose lone prior stakes win here came in the 2011 Raven Run aboard Great Hot. “The colt really brought his 'A' game today.” :: Bet Keeneland with confidence! The Kentucky-bred son of Lord Nelson now has won three of four starts, with his lone defeat being a third-place finish in the Saratoga Special in August. Bourbon Bash was second, another 1 3/4 lengths ahead of Raise Cain in a field of six 2-year-olds. Sir Lancelot, the 2-1 favorite, gave futile chase to Super Chow before fading to fourth. Delgado, who was sending out just his second starter ever at Keeneland, was elated with the breakthrough score. The Venezuela native continues to heighten his profile in the Eastern U.S. “I’m very thankful to the owner,” he said. “They never show me anything but support.” The $2 exacta (5-7) paid $41.42, the $1 trifecta (5-7-1) returned $59.98, and the 10-cent superfecta (5-7-1-2) was worth $17.25. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
