ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Sugar Again won her stakes debut under an astute ride from Luis Contreras in the $105,400 Ruling Angel on Wednesday night at Woodbine. Sugar Again saved ground on the turn while running near the back of the pack, as favored Sharp Secretary set moderate splits of 23.29 and 46.03 in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint. Contreras angled Sugar Again wide for the drive, and she drew alongside leader Barracks Road at the sixteenth pole before wearing that one down en route to a half-length win in 1:15.99. Fantastic Cousin wound up another 1 1/4 lengths back in third, and Sharp Secretary faded to fourth. It was the third victory in four starts this year for Sugar Again, who is trained by Mac Benson. “We thought she was going to be a good filly, right from the day we started breaking her,” said Benson. Sugar Again returned $5.40 as the second choice, and earned $60,000 for Augustin Stable.
