Intrepid Daydream stretches out in distance for the $100,000 Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes on Saturday at Laurel Park. The Thirty Eight Go Go, for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles, shares top billing with two $100,000 stakes for 2-year-olds at six furlongs, the James F. Lewis III and the Smart Halo for fillies. A hulking 4-year-old weighing in at more than 1,100 pounds, Intrepid Daydream enters the Thirty Eight Go Go on a three-race win streak. Intrepid Daydream was an also-eligible for the seven-furlong Maryland Million Distaff on Oct. 14, but trainer Gary Capuano made the wise decision to hold her in until the 11th hour. After some very late scratches, Intrepid Daydream drew into the field and was a popular three-length winner under Jevian Toledo. Intrepid Daydream has raced once around two turns, a 16 3/4-length blowout win against maiden special weights at Delaware Park in 2021. The popular Luna Belle finished third behind Intrepid Daydream in the Distaff, but that was her first start in 512 days, and she can improve for trainer Hamilton Smith. Luna Belle won five consecutive stakes leading up to the 2022 Black-Eyed Susan. Eleventh in that Grade 2 race, she was then sidelined with bone bruising. “For the first race back, I was very pleased,” Smith said. “She made up a few lengths at the end, which is always promising.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Although Smith admitted that he’d prefer a slightly shorter distance for Luna Belle’s second race back, he noted “that the previous year, the further she went, the better she got.” Hybrid Eclipse won this race last year for trainer Brittany Russell. She finished fourth in Laurel’s Twixt on Sept. 30. “I thought she was doing good going into it,” Russell said. “Honestly, I thought it was a bit of a dull effort. She seems to be doing better now.” Hybrid Eclipse is a late closer, and Russell is pleased with the likely hot pace scenario with Intrepid Daydream, Hashtag Lucky, and Opus Forty Two expected to push the tempo. Capuano also entered Malibu Beauty. Third in the Twixt and sixth in the Maryland Million Distaff, she is a stakes winner around two turns with $548,584 in earnings and should also be forwardly placed. Milagrosa Surena, I’m Gittin There, Sweet Willemina, and Champagne Toast complete the field. Smart Halo Deboisblanc, an open-lengths winner of a two-lifetime allowance Oct. 9 at Horseshoe Indianapolis, is the 9-5 morning-line favorite in the Smart Halo. Trained by Brad Cox, Deboisblanc sold for $290,000 in March. “From the time we got her home out of the sale, she always acted like she had a good bit of speed, so obviously that’s her best attribute,” Cox said. “I’m trying to get [some black type] with her. It looked like a good spot.” Deboisblanc is entered as Hip No. 4214 in the ongoing Keeneland auction. “She’s not been removed,” Cox said. “We’re going to run first, then cross that bridge.” Cap Classique won her debut on turf at Colonial Downs, then successfully switched to dirt in a first-level allowance on Oct. 7 at Laurel. “Trying the turf wasn’t the plan, but it was what was in front of us as far as distances and options,” Russell said. “She always worked well on the dirt, so we were looking to get her back on it.” Cap Classique drew the rail, but Russell didn’t seem concerned. “I think she can sit a trip and I don’t think she’ll mind taking dirt,” Russell said. “She’s a classy, honest filly.” Smith counters with Roanan Goddess. Beaten seven lengths by Cap Classique, she suffered a terrible trip that day, but still rallied for second. “A lot of babies would have given up and quit, but she didn’t. She kept digging in,” Smith said. Three weeks later, she rebounded to win a first-level allowance. “She’s coming back a little quick,” Smith said. “She’s on the small side, but she’ll go inside, outside, and [is very versatile]. She acts like a nice little filly.” Debut winners Caress, Miss Justify, Miss Harriett, and Vicountess join stakes winner Princess Indy, Low Mileage, and Ms. Tart in the gate. James F. Lewis III Copper Tax, odds-on in all five starts, brings a four-race win streak into the James F. Lewis. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures Trained by Capuano, the colt has already won at distances between five furlongs and one mile over fast and wet going. Last month, he captured Delaware’s Rocky Run in gate-to-wire fashion. Jane Cibelli counters with Inveigled, an Enticed gelding exiting a promising maiden win with blinkers on. “The blinkers changed him,” Cibelli said. “You wouldn’t think he was 2. He looks like a 4-year-old. He’s built like a tank. The first time I breezed him, I said this horse has some talent.” Catahoula Moon, winner of the Maryland Million Nursery over good going, benefits if this pace heats up. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
