John Stewart, who runs as Resolute Racing, has made a major name as a buyer of top-flight Thoroughbreds worldwide over the last two years to establish a high-end operation. Now, he might make a splash as a seller. Stewart, who indicated last month that he was taking a look at the numbers for his operation, entered four weanlings and two broodmares in the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale. “I’ve got too many yearlings now, so I’ve got to figure out what to do because I think I have 50 already for next year,” Stewart said at the Keeneland September yearling sale, at which he ultimately signed for 12 horses. “We still have some sales to go through, and we’re active overseas now with the sales in Europe. I don’t want more than 50 going into racing next year, so I’m going to have to cull some of the ones we’ve bought out.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! At least one of the broodmares will be withdrawn from Fasig November, after Bobby Flay re-purchased his homebred Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Pizza Bianca, as well as her first foal, an Into Mischief filly, from Stewart over the weekend. Stewart purchased Pizza Bianca, carrying this foal, for $3 million at last year’s Fasig November sale, and she is now back in foal to Justify. The purchase, which was first reported by Thoroughbred Daily News, was for an undisclosed sum. “When Bobby Flay reached out and was interested in buying back Pizza Bianca and her foal, I instantly knew it was the right thing to do,” Stewart posted on social media. “I am happy for Bobby, and Resolute Racing enjoyed the privilege of looking after this classy horse and her beautiful foal. We expect things from her going forward.” Stewart’s other broodmare entrant at the sale is Lenni Girl, an unraced half-sister to champion Jackie’s Warrior who is now in foal to Practical Joke. Stewart bought the mare for $500,000 last November at Fasig-Tipton. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
