Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Stewart Elliott reached a milestone of 5,000 career victories late Sunday night, when he won Lone Star Park's eighth race aboard Power End. Elliott captured the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness aboard Smarty Jones. This year, the rider has been based at Lone Star. Power End ($8.80) was his second winner on Sunday’s card, darting home by a half-length in an allowance over five furlongs on turf. He covered the distance in a quick 55.83 seconds. Elliott is a 55-year-old native of Toronto. He won the first race of his career at Keystone on Jan. 31, 1981. He comes from a racing family. His father, Dennis Elliott, is a retired jockey turned trainer, and his mother, Myhill, is from a long line of trainers.  Elliott reached a racing pinnacle with Smarty Jones. He also has won graded stakes with such horses as Round Pond, Jostle, Rockport Harbor, and Wildcat Heir. Elliott is a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and has won both the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award and an ESPY from ESPN.  Elliott has had a total of 32,188 mounts, which have earned $106,217,627, according to statistics from Daily Racing Form.
