Grade 1 winner and sire Get Stormy died on Sunday at Crestwood Farm in Lexington, Ky., from a suspected cardiac event. The son of Stormy Atlantic was 16. Get Stormy, nicknamed "Clyde" on the racetrack for his distinctive white markings reminiscent of a Clydesdale, won 11 of 31 starts and earned more than $1.6 million over five seasons of racing for trainer Tom Bush and Sullimar Stable. He won nine stakes, highlighted by Grade 1 victories in the 2011 Marker's Mark Mile at Keeneland, 2011 Turf Classic at Churchill Downs, and 2012 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. Get Stormy retired to Crestwood Farm in Lexington, Ky., and to date is the sire of 12 stakes winners. He is best known as the sire of multimillionaire Got Stormy, a three-time Grade 1 winner on the turf. He also sired Grade 3-winning millionaire Fifty Five and graded stakes winners Get Smokin, Getmotherarose, Go Noni Go, and Storm the Hill. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales “Get Stormy was an amazing racehorse, and came to us with all the credentials and a tremendous following,” Crestwood’s Pope McLean said in a release. “He was such a great physical, and was a pleasure to be around. He was poised to become a top sire, as his best-bred crops have yet to race. We are sorry and shocked; he is a great loss to our farm and Storm Cat’s legacy.”
