HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Frank Fletcher has the fastest 3-year-old filly in the land based on Beyer Speed Figures and she’s coming to his home track of Oaklawn Park. Frank’s Rockette earned a Beyer of 98 for her win in the $75,000 Any Limit on Feb. 22 at Gulfsetream Park. The number is at least four points higher than any other Beyer earned by a 3-year-old filly so far this year. It figures to make her the favorite for the $100,000 Purple Martin Stakes here on Saturday. Fletcher, a prominent businessman based in North Little Rock, also is the breeder of Frank’s Rockette. She’s adaughter of Into Mischief and his Grade 3-winning mare Rocket Twentyone.   “It’s been real exciting,” said Fletcher, who has the filly in training at Payson Park with Bill Mott. Frank’s Rockette won her debut by 8 3/4 lengths in a maiden special weight last June at Churchill Downs.  “She just cruised by them at Churchill and right after that, Bill Mott started getting calls within an hour,” Fletcher said of prospective buyers.  Frank’s Rockette proceeded to run second in a trio of stakes in New York, the Grade 2 Adirondack and Grade 1 Spinaway at Saratoga and the Grade 1 Frizette at Belmont Park. The Any Limit was her first start since the Frizette last October. Frank’s Rockette set fractions of 22.76 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.14 for the half-mile before going on to win the six-furlong race on a fast track in 1:09.51. She will travel the same distance Saturday. “She’s gotten a lot stronger – stronger and heavier – since she was a 2-year-old,” Fletcher said. “Our goal was to run on the day before the Kentucky Derby, in the Eight Belles. That was seven-eighths of a mile. We thought that was a perfect spot for her. That’s what we would have done if it hadn’t been for the virus.” The coronavirus pandemic recently led Churchill Downs to move the Kentucky Derby, and other stakes run that week, to September.  Fletcher said he’s pleased to have Frank’s Rockette in action at Oaklawn. “It’s an opportunity to run and it’s the perfect distance,” he said. Martin Garcia will have the mount, said Kathy Moore Howard, racing manager for Fletcher. April is shaping up to be a big month for Fletcher. He has C Z Rocket in Friday’s featured eighth race at Oaklawn. Frank’s Rockette is on deck Saturday, while dam Rocket Twentyone has a due date of April 15. “She’s in foal to American Pharoah,” said Fletcher. Moore, Mott team up again Howard, a retired jockey who for the past 20 years has been the racing manager for Fletcher, has some longstanding ties with Mott. The pair will be teaming up Saturday at Oaklawn when Mott sends out Fletcher’s stable star, Frank’s Rockette, in the $100,000 Purple Martin.  “Kathy rode for him back in the day,” said Fletcher. Moore rode for Mott in the 1980s, at tracks such as Fair Grounds and Hazel Park in Detroit. She competed as a jockey for more than 15 years and in 1980 was the leading apprentice at both Oaklawn and Ak-Sar-Ben in Omaha, Neb.    “The first horse I rode for Billy won,” Moore said. “It was really good. He was good to me.” Some of the old winner’s circle pictures officially refer to Moore as the winning “jockette” alongside the listing of Mott as the winning trainer.    In her current role, Moore oversees Fletcher’s stable of runners at Oaklawn and other tracks. The stable has horses at Oaklawn with trainers Brad Cox, Bill Martin, Al Stall, and Will Van Meter. Frank’s Rockette was to arrive from Payson Park on Tuesday, said Moore. The filly has a special place in Moore’s heart for her pedigree. Moore’s late husband, Tom Howard, trained her dam, Rocket Twentyone. Last summer, Moore joined Fletcher to see Frank’s Rockette debut.   “When we were at Churchill Downs looking at her in the paddock, it brought tears to my eyes,” Moore said. “She looks just like her mother.” Rocket Twentyone won the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Lassie in 2011 at Arlington Park. She was one of the top horses trained by Howard, who also conditioned Grade 3 winner Ivan Fallunovalot. ► Champion British Idiom worked Saturday at Oaklawn, going a half-mile in 48.40 seconds. She is a candidate for the Grade 3, $400,000 Fantasy here May 1, according to trainer Brad Cox. ► Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr., who by Oaklawn policy has been in quarantine since riding at Fair Grounds on Louisiana Derby Day, returns to action this week. He has been named on horses here Thursday and Friday. Santana is a six-time title winner at Oaklawn. ► Oaklawn will move to a new post of 1 p.m. Central daily beginning Thursday. – additional reporting by Marcus Hersh
