Shred the Rules upset 4-5 favorite Stallwalkin’ Dude in the $50,000 Roadrunner on Tuesday at Zia Park, winning the sprint by a neck over that one. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Cowboy Cool. The Roadrunner, at six furlongs, was the local prep for the $100,000 Zia Park Sprint to be run on the rich Land of Enchantment card Nov. 21. Shred the Rules ($15) set a contested pace in the Roadrunner, dueling through an opening quarter in 22.43 seconds and a half-mile in 45.22. He fought back when challenged in the stretch by Stallwalkin’ Dude, and covered the distance on a track rated fast in 1:09.61. Ry Eikleberry was aboard the winner for trainer Susan Arnett. Stallwalkin’ Dude long had been a fixture in the New York sprint ranks, among his victories the Grade 3 Bold Ruler at Belmont Park in 2016 and the Grade 3 Fall Highweight at Aqueduct last year at the age of 7. He was making his second start in New Mexico on Tuesday, with Justin Evans training the horse in this region for co-owners David Jacobson and Head of Plains Partners. Shred the Rules is a 5-year-old by Tribal Rule who races for Bill Guess. He was winning his first stakes race in the Roadrunner. Shred the Rules has now won 5 of 12 starts and the $30,000 first-place check Tuesday pushed his career earnings to $122,149.
