Shotgun Kowboy returns to the overnight ranks for Thursday’s sixth race at Remington Park, a conditioned allowance that carries an optional claiming price of $40,000. He enters the mile and 70-yard feature off a dominant victory in the track’s $175,000 Oklahoma Classics Night Classic. Shotgun Kowboy won the 1 1/16-mile Classic on Oct. 18 by more than six lengths while making his first start since April. He could get an ideal tracking trip off Pinson in Thursday’s race, which also has drawn stakes winner Net Gain and recent Remington winner Chris and Dave. Shotgun Kowboy, a past winner of the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby at Remington, is looking for his 10th win over the local main track. He will break from post 3 in the field of 6. David Cabrera, the meet’s leading rider who won four races last Friday night, has the mount for breeder, owner and trainer, C.R. Trout. Broberg sitting on 500 wins Trainer Karl Broberg was one win shy of 500 for the year heading into racing action Monday. Last year he became just the third trainer in North America to win 500 races in a calendar year, behind Steve Asmussen and Scott Lake. Broberg through Sunday had 499 wins from 1,895 starts in 2019. Asmussen ranked second in wins, with 371. Broberg won four races at Remington last Friday night, with those horses all ridden by David Cabrera. Among other meets, Broberg also is active at Delta Downs in Vinton, La. ◗ Remington’s turf course has been closed for the remainder of the season, with the final race over it held Saturday.
