Hall of Fame racemare and blue hen Serena’s Song turns 30 this week. The mare, who resides at Denali Stud in Paris, Ky., was foaled April 4, 1992. Serena’s Song, who raced for Robert and Beverly Lewis and trainer D. Wayne Lukas, won 18 of 38 starts and earned more than $3.2 million in a career that saw her inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002. Her 17 graded stakes wins included 11 Grade 1 victories. She defeated males in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational and Grade 2 Jim Beam in 1995 in an Eclipse Award championship campaign in which she also posted Grade 1 wins against females in the Santa Ynez, Las Virgenes, Santa Anita Oaks, Mother Goose, Gazelle, and Beldame. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales As a broodmare, Serena’s Song produced Group 1 winner Sophisticat, Grade 2 winners Grand Reward and Harlington, Grade 3 winner Schramsberg, stakes winners Serena’s Tune and Serene Melody, and stakes-placed Artbitrate. Her legacy has continued with several of her daughters and granddaughters producing stakes horses. She is the third dam of Eclipse champion and young sire Honor Code.
