CYPRESS, Calif. - Sensible Cat remained unbeaten in one-mile races with an attractive win in the $100,000 Soviet Problem Stakes for California-bred 2-year-old fillies at Los Alamitos on Saturday. Ridden by Juan Hernandez, Sensible Cat ($11) closed from sixth in a field of 10 to win the Soviet Problem by 1 3/4 lengths over the two-time stakes winner Governor Goteven. Hernandez had Sensible Cat in sixth for the first half-mile, well behind 16-1 Mucha Woman, who set a pace of 22.75 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 46.29 for a half-mile. Sensible Cat advanced to third in early stretch and took the lead from stretch leader Dylans Wild Cat in the final furlong before pulling away. Governor Goteven (3-1) finished a half-length in front of Dylans Wild Cat, the 5-2 favorite. I’m So Anna, the winner of the Pike Place Dancer Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Oct. 31, finished fourth, followed by Super Game, Mucha Woman, Will Take a Kiss, Miss Glorious, Westward Breeze, and Love Wins. Dylans Wild Cat and Governor Goteven were second and fourth in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar on Nov. 6. Governor Goteven won two sprint stakes for statebred 2-year-old fillies during the Del Mar summer meeting. Sensible Cat, by Bluegrass Cat, races for Irvin Racing Stable and has won 2 of 3 starts and earned $89,700. Sensible Cat finished sixth of 10 in a maiden special weight race for California-bred 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs on Sept. 7 in her debut on the final day of the Del Mar summer meeting. “Toward the end of Del Mar, she had some mucous and we missed getting her in a long race, so we sprinted her once to get her some experience,” trainer Carla Gaines said of the filly’s debut.
