Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas knows a Preakness prospect when he sees one as a six-time winner of the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, and he’s hoping Seize the Grey could develop into a candidate for the race. The horse defeated a deep field of 3-year-olds in a first-level allowance on the Rebel undercard Feb. 24 at Oaklawn. “He might be a Preakness horse,” Lukas said. Seize the Grey has since come back and worked a sharp five-eighths, going in 59.60 seconds March 3 at Oaklawn. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! I don’t know yet.” Lukas said he would be consulting with Seize the Grey’s ownership, MyRacehorse. Seize the Grey stalked the pace and went on to a length win in the 1 1/16-mile allowance, earning a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 82. The son of Arrogate was a maiden special weight sprint winner at Saratoga and, after finishing third in the track’s Skidmore, went on to run a close fourth in the Grade 3 Iroquois at Churchill Downs. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
