LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath will begin her broodmare career at Spendthrift Farm and will be bred to its leading sire, Into Mischief, after the operation purchased her for $3 million at the Fasig-Tipton November sale. “Obviously, her race record needs no explanation,” Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey said. “She’s a big, classy mare. We think she’s really a perfect type of mare for Into Mischief. Really thrilled to get her.” Secret Oath, from the first of just three crops by champion Arrogate and out of stakes winner Absinthe Minded, raced as a homebred for Briland Farm, winning 6 of 18 starts and earning more than $2.4 million. Her four career stakes wins were highlighted by the 2022 Kentucky Oaks, in which she bested eventual Eclipse Award champion Nest by two lengths in a strong field. Secret Oath placed in seven additional Grade 1 races, including a third against males in the Arkansas Derby. She was a creditable fourth in the Preakness Stakes. “She took a back seat to nobody,” Toffey said. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
