SCIOTO MEET STATS: 16-6-2-4 / $114.20 (+$82.20) BEST BETS: 1-1-0-0 / $2.20 (+$.20) SPOT PLAYS: 1-0-0-1 / $0.00 (-$2.00) BEST BET: SWINGTOWN (5th) SPOT PLAY: TORRIN HANOVER (17th) Race 1: Non-winners $7,500 in last 4 - Pick 5 (1) LET IT RIDE N has plenty of class and has really gotten right while down in company lately. He steps back up a level but seems sharp enough to continue rolling. (9) GOLD DIGGER KING is back at a more comfortable level and you know he’ll be firing off the wings of the gate. His chances come down to how hard he’ll have to work to make the top. (2) RED RIGHT HAND changes tracks and drivers. Maybe that will perk up this sleeping giant. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: Starter Alw. For $20,000 Claimers w/Opt. for $20K tag (3) DIESEL ACCELERATOR gets a barn change and a driver upgrade here while remaining at the lower class he dropped to last week. He could be a nice value play. (6) KISS OF TERROR was racing well before the scratched-sick line last time. Perhaps the addition of the aggressive Merriman will get him in play. (4) TOP RECRUIT has been as steady as they come in recent weeks and just needs a live trip to have a shot. [DRF BETS: Wager on tonight's Scioto card at DRF Bets.com!] Race 3: Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Pace - Pick 4 (1) SEASIDE DIVA is undefeated in the Ohio Sire Stakes series this year and it is difficult to look past her. (6) CALYPSO PEARL steps up to the top division of the Sire Stakes after a number of strong efforts. Best of all, she has the early speed to make the front and ultimately sit the pocket to the top pick. (2) DAISYS STAR has come on of late with some nice efforts and I expect she’ll sit and try to charge home late. Race 4: Non-winners 10 races or $60,000 life to be claimed for $50,000 (2) BARLEY A TEASE & (1) FOLSOM PRISON have both been racing in this class often and each has put up at least one victory and a number of on-the-board appearances. I’ll be using both in the multi-race wagers. (5) PJ LOU is probably the best horse but comes with a big question mark of a seven-month layoff. (4) FLIRTIN JK changes tracks and moves into a high percentage barn; worth consideration. Race 5: Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO Colt Pace (1) SWINGTOWN might be one of the best 2-year-old pacing colts in the country and he’s been beating these with something left in the tank. Despite the month off he should win again as a nice prep for the Metro at Mohawk. (5) FABIO HANOVER seems likely to fire to the front here so he can cut it or sit the pocket to the top pick. (3) CAPTAIN JENNA seems like a better horse now than he was when last seen in the Buckeye and Sire Stakes. He could spice up the exacta with the right setup. Race 6: Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Colt Pace (6) OUTER BANKS seems to be coming into his own with back to back wins. He has a big shot here with any decent trip. (3) HUNDRED DOLLAR MAN comes off a nice effort at Northfield behind the top pick a couple of weeks back and we know he has the early speed to make the top if Teague wants it. (1) ROCK THE HILL was a good second here in his last Sire Stakes appearance back in early July. With the right trip a victory isn’t out of the question. (9) CLEVER CODY is plenty talented but stuck on the outside. Race 7: Open F&M Pace (6) GRACE HILL has clearly lost a step, which isn’t surprising for a mare at about her age. That said, she came her final half in 53 2/5 last time and does pick up Dexter Dunn here. I’ll take a shot that she awakens. (9) MY RED SEA is oh so sharp now. Can she be stopped by post 9? Can she make the front? (1) MAN DONTFORGET ME hasn’t missed the board in some time and was second behind Twin B Joe Fresh when last seen on this track. The only concern is her lack of recent wins. Race 8: Open Pace - Pick 4 (4) MUSKATEER HANOVER had good cover but was chasing slow fractions and got a bit rough on the final turn last time. All that and he still almost won in his first start after missing four weeks. He could be even better now. (9) ARTATAC A is sharp and fast off the gate but I wouldn’t accept too short a price. (7) CHASE H HANOVER wasn’t a match for the top pair last time but he does get Dunn back in the bike and this guy is 13 for 28 here the last three years. Race 9: Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Colt Trot (11) TENNESSEE TOM was driven ultra-patiently as the 1-5 chalk last time and the bettors took it on the chin. I guess it was to be expected having missed four weeks and facing older foes. The second tier presents some issues here but he is best. (6) SPAAAANZANO has been over this track eight times and owns four wins and an equal number of seconds. (3) HUNG OVER has been chasing Karl and Secret Agent Man of late. That has to have him tight for this race. Race 10: Ohio Sire Stakes 2YO Colt Pace - Pick 5 (4) COPPER PENNY really hasn’t had much luck as he was scratched sick in his debut and then drew a string of outside posts. He qualified back well for Brown here and figures to be put in play at a nice price. (10) RICK WINK is undefeated in five career starts but could be in for an interesting trip from post 10 in a race he really doesn’t need to win. (2) EXTRA SUDS has raced well in both starts from inside posts in the Sire Stakes. Race 11: Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Trot (9) SUGAR INSTEAD is perfect in eight starts this year and the outside posts seemingly only adds to the potential off odds. (4) JURASSIC HATTIE has been making good money chasing the top pick of late. She has a nice post edge here. (3) LEGACY AFFAIR is fast enough to go with these if he behaves and the trip works out. Race 12: $260K Charlie Hill Memorial Trot (7) CHAPERCRAZ was blocked behind a wall of horses through the entire stretch in the Maple Leaf Trot elimination. Prior to that he was third behind the best two older trotters in the sport. Gelding only has one win this year but there are no excuses this week against a softer group. (4) LEXUS KODY can carry his speed a long way; one to beat. (2) HILLEXOTIC raced better than I expected up at Mohawk and certainly deserves at least some consideration in this spot. (5) WINNER’S BET seems to have tailed off lately but the talent is still there. Race 13: $250K Jim Ewart Memorial (6) BYTHEMISSAL qualified back from a minor issue with Lasix added and was spectacular. The thought of potentially getting north of even money on a horse I think is clearly the best is too good to pass up. (10) BUZZSAW RUSS made a speed break trying to pace a 26 quarter on the turn at Batavia; not a great idea. This guy has impressed me and Gingras joining the team is certainly interesting. (3) I DID IT MYWAY owns a four-race win streak and is coming off a lifetime best performance. It’s hard not to think he has a shot. (5) LITTLE ROCKET MAN owns early speed and form but I can see him taking a patient approach as well. Race 14: Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Filly Pace - Pick 4 (7) WASTED ON YOU comes off a couple of ugly lines and perhaps that bumps her price closer to the 9-5 morning line than the even money she should be offering. (3) BATH BOMB and (5) NO FOOLIN APRIL have both been chasing nicely in Ohio-sired races this year and figure to do the same tonight. Either could step up given the right circumstance. Race 15: Ohio Sire Stakes 3YO Colt Pace (3) PARIS’S DRAGON should be rolling to the front here and be able to work out a decent trip. That’s all it will take for him to come away with a win. (8) JANELLE GRANNY has displayed ability at times and I’m intrigued here by the addition of Lasix. That said, why did Miller opt for #4? (1) ROSE RUN ZANE isn’t the best horse in this division but he’s good at chasing and should sit close enough to get a big piece. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 16: Non-winners $11,000 in last 4 or 6 races or $55,000 life This race is filled with horses that like to win a class lower but are only occasional winners in this company. (8) LATER DUDES is down in class from recent races and could be the last to the front if Page chooses that option. (5) STARS ALIGN A dominated a field he was supposed to beat last time and perhaps that has built up this veteran’s confidence. (10) LAKE CHARLES double drops and would be very logical here, though he may need a new lifetime mark to win. Race 17: Starter Alw. For $30,000 Claimers w/Opt. for $30K tag (9) TORRIN HANOVER has won two of his last three starts for this barn. The only reason he didn’t leave hard last time was due to a host of inside horses having the same plan. He has a much better shot at the top here. (5) KINNDER JACKSON comes off a win in this condition; obvious contender. (7) MC MAN drops in for a tag and could certainly bring a strong effort.
