SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Due to heavy rains and possible heavy winds associated with Tropical Storm Debby, Friday’s 10-race card at Saratoga has been canceled, the New York Racing Association announced on Thursday. Further, the Grade 1 Fourstardave and Grade 1 Saratoga Derby, scheduled to be run on Saturday’s card, will now be run as the final two races on Sunday’s card. The NYRA had previously announced that, as a contingency, it had carded those two races, as drawn, for Sunday. There were four other turf races scheduled for Saturday, including the Grade 2, $300,000 Troy Stakes and the $150,000 Galway Stakes, both at 5 1/2 furlongs. No official decision on the status of those races was announced Thursday, though it would seem highly unlikely they will remain on the turf. The final three scheduled turf races for Thursday were taken off the turf and run on the main track. There will be a revised wagering menu for Saturday’s card as NYRA will add a pick four and a late pick five on the final four and five races offered on the card. The Saratoga Derby had been carded as race 6 and the Fourstardave as race 10. :: Gain a competitive edge at Saratoga with DRF's premier handicapping data — purchase our meet packages today and bet with confidence. The $125,000 Evan Shipman and the $125,000 Union Avenue, scheduled for Friday, will be rescheduled. The last time NYRA canceled a full card was July 20, 2019, when that card was canceled due to extreme heat. Saratoga will be closed to the public on Friday and breakfast and track tours will not be offered. Fans who purchased tickets for Friday are entitled to a full refund or credit for a future purchase and will be contacted by the NYRA sales office. Tickets purchased via third-party sites are not eligible for a refund from NYRA so customers must directly contact the third-party vendor for assistance.
