Between Sept. 11 and Sept. 15, trainer Brittany Russell won seven races from 18 starts, including a facile victory with stable star Post Time in Laurel Park’s $100,000 Polynesian Stakes. The Russell barn looks to continue its hot streak Wednesday at Delaware Park with Saddle Up Jessie, the 5-2 morning-line favorite in the $125,000 Obeah Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles. Saddle Up Jessie, a multiple stakes-winning 5-year-old by More Than Ready, won twice at Delaware last year, and finished second earlier this summer in the track’s signature race, the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap. Saddle Up Jessie has started once since, finishing second as the odds-on favorite in the Caesar’s Wish on Aug. 4 at Laurel. Celebrating in the winner’s circle following Post Time’s Polynesian success, Russell said that Saddle Up Jessie is a “straightforward” mare that is “doing great” and should benefit from the time off between the Caesar’s Wish and the Obeah. :: Subscribe to the DRF Post Time Email Newsletter: Get the news you need to play today's races!  The National Weather Service predicts a 70 percent chance of rain in the area Wednesday, and Venti Valentine has already won three times over wet tracks. Trained by Jorge Abreu, five-time stakes winner Venti Valentine returns to her preferred dirt surface after a failed turf experiment at Saratoga. She previously finished last of five in a quality edition of the Grade 2 Shuvee on July 21 at Saratoga. Frosty O Toole won two of her first four starts for trainer Mike Dini before being privately purchased by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and transferred to Todd Pletcher’s barn. The 4-year-old Frosted filly didn’t do much in three starts for Pletcher, so Eclipse returned her to Dini’s barn last fall, and Frosty O Toole recently earned a valuable Grade 3 placing when a wide-trip third to champion Idiomatic in the Molly Pitcher on July 20 at Monmouth Park. “She seems to be getting better,” Dini said. “She’s a timid filly. When I took her to Ohio [for the Lady Jacqueline on June 22], [the jockey] put her right down on the rail and got her drilled with dirt, and she doesn’t really run to that.” Miss New York notched the Boiling Springs at Monmouth in 2023 and appears to be racing herself back into top form for trainer Jorge Delgado. In her most recent start, her second this year, she bested a high-level allowance field on Aug. 17 at Laurel. Ragtime Belle is another who might be reaching peak maturity. The 5-year-old returned to dirt for her second start in 2024 and walloped a group of second-level allowance rivals by 12 lengths on Sept. 5 at Delaware. She earned an 88 Beyer, the best last-out speed figure in the Obeah field. "She came back better this year," said trainer McLean Robertson. "She's a late-developing mare. She ran a pretty good race on the grass first time. She needed the race. :: Bet with the Best! Get FREE All-Access PPs and Weekly Cashback when you wager on DRF Bets. "The second time, she ran great. It's back a little quick, but it's a recognizable race, so we hope to get at least stakes placed." Magical Lute took the Iowa Distaff two starts back, then finished seventh of eight in Ellis Park’s Groupie Doll. Brazilian Group 1 winner Evidencias, stakes winners Sweet Alyssa and Reclusive, stakes-placed Hot Fudge Warrior, Miles of Smiles, and Heleonortiz complete the field. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
