OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Jockeys Jose Lezcano and Joel Rosario will be serving three-day careless riding suspensions Thursday through Saturday while jockey Javier Castellano has appealed a three-day suspension handed him by the track stewards. Rosario was handed his suspension for his ride aboard Spirit Prince in the Grade 2 Pilgrim Stakes on Oct. 4. Spirit Prince came in and bumped Fulmineo, who finished second while Spirit Prince was declared to be in a dead heat for third with Liam’s Journey. Lezcano and Castellano were each suspended three days for rides in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Stakes on Oct. 1. Lezcano was aboard Headland, who from the inside came out, while Castellano was on Sterling Silver, who was deemed to have come in from the outside, both bothering Caramel Swirl, who finished third after being taken up by Junior Alvarado. :: Bet with the Best! The stewards disqualified both Sterling Silver, who finished first, and Headland who finished second, placing them second and third, respectively. Caramel Swirl was moved from third to first. ◗ With two weeks, eight cards, left in the Belmont at The Big A meet, Irad Ortiz Jr. and Manny Franco are tied atop the jockey standings with 22 wins. Not far behind them are the duo of Kendrick Carmouche and Jose Ortiz, both of whom have 18 wins.
