BENSALEM, Pa. - Pace makes the race and Ridin With Biden parlayed an uncontested early lead into a gate-to-wire victory in Saturday's Grade 3, $200,000 Greenwood Cup for 3-year-olds and up at Parx Racing.  After the early scratch of Double the Heart, Ridin With Biden loomed as the controlling speed on paper, and jockey Paco Lopez didn't disappoint the pace projectors. He guided Ridin With Biden ($19.20) to the front, and the gelding, head bowed low to the ground, seemed to enjoy himself as he waltzed through fractions of 24.73, 49.51 and 1:14.30 while virtually unchallenged. Riden With Biden got a 94 Beyer Speed Figure. Defending Greenwood Cup champion Magic Michael and jockey Frankie Pennington made a run at Ridin With Biden turning into the stretch, and briefly loomed a strong challenger as the pacesetter began to wander to the inside. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! Then came Western River, Forewarned, Bossmakinbossmoves, odds-on favorite Fearless and The Reds. "He really likes Paco's feel," winning trainer Butch Reid said. "You can't take too much hold of this horse, or he'll run off with you. Paco put them to sleep down the backside and that was it." Reid has long maintained that gelding Ridin With Biden over the winter has helped the horse achieve his potential. "He's a new horse now," Reid said of the Constitution 4-year-old, who was known in the barn as an anxious type prone to bouts of stallwalking. "It's changed him personally." Trainer Jamie Ness was pleased with Magic Michael's effort. "He ran good," Ness said. "I'm proud of him. He tried every step. The 5 [Ridin With Biden] got away from us and we couldn't catch up. That guy [Lopez], he's hard to catch on the lead." The Greenwood Cup was Ridin With Biden's second stakes victory this year. He has won 5 of 17 starts for earnings of $385,080. Bred in Kentucky by William Harrigan and Mike Pietrangelo, he is owned by Cash Is King and LC Racing. The ownership group also combined for two other winners on the Saturday program. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
