Grade 1 winner Juju’s Map will meet seven-time stakes winner Free Like a Girl in an interesting renewal of the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks on Sunday. The 1 1/16-mile race also drew Sunland Park Oaks winner Cleopatras Charge and is part of a lineup of eight stakes on the $1.1 million Oklahoma Derby Day. There is a special first post of 3 p.m. Central. The forecast is for sunny skies and a high of 89 degrees. Juju’s Map was an Eclipse Award finalist for outstanding 2-year-old filly last year after winning the Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland and running second to juvenile filly champion Echo Zulu in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She’s made three starts since, winning an allowance in her 3-year-old debut and finishing third in both the Grade 2 Mother Goose at Belmont Park and the Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks. :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic. She’s trained every bit as good this year as she had last year.” Juju’s Map will break from post 5 in the eight-horse Remington Park Oaks. Florent Geroux will be aboard the filly, who will remove blinkers in what is a high-percentage equipment change for Cox. Free Like a Girl had been penciled in for a stakes start against Louisiana-breds at home at Delta Downs, but that was against older rivals and trainer Chasey Deville-Pomier said the chance to stick with straight 3-year-olds was a primary reason to head to Remington. “That’s the big thing,” she said. “Right now, there’s not many of those races left this time of year.” Free Like a Girl exits the Grade 3 Charles Town Oaks in which she finished second to Society, who was to have started in the Grade 1 Cotillion on Saturday at Parx Racing. “I thought she ran a heck of a race,” Deville-Pomier said. Free Like a Girl boasts an 8-for-16 record for earnings of more than $550,000. She will be looking for her first win beyond a mile Sunday. “She’s been a remarkable filly from Day 1,” Deville-Pomier said. “We’ve known from her first couple of works she was going to be nice. You wouldn’t imagine this nice. She’s definitely matured, is really a pretty level-headed filly.” Pedro Cotto Jr. has the mount from post 3. “She knows how to run under the lights, and it might be a little cooler, and I think those are things that will work out good,” Deville-Pomier said. “We’ll take a shot. We can stay home the rest of the year.” Remington Green Rated R Superstar established himself as the top older dirt horse on the grounds in August with his win in the $175,000 Governor’s Cup at Remington. But with the next local race for his division not until December, he will make a rare appearance on turf for the $100,000 Remington Green. The 1 1/8-mile race drew a full field of 12, including Grade 2 winner Devamani, Mountaineer stakes winner Price Talk, and 2020 Remington Green winner Sunlit Song. Rated R Superstar has won three stakes this year at 9, his latest at the same distance as the Remington Green. “He’s training really good, but it’s been a while since he’s run on the grass,” owner Danny Caldwell said. “I think he’s one of those horses that will probably try. He likes to run. He likes to go out and perform. We expect him to go out and try. “There’s enough speed to run at. If he goes out there and gives us his effort, maybe we’ll be right there at the end.” In the Remington Green in 2018, Rated R Superstar closed from 10th and finished sixth, beaten three lengths. David Cabrera has the mount for trainer Federico Villafranco. Cox and Gaining Ground Racing will counter with Price Talk, who won the West Virginia House of Delegates Speakers’ Cup in his most recent start Aug. 6 at Mountaineer. “He won an off-the-turf race last time,” Cox said. “He can run off the turf, but we’re hoping we run on the turf. He’s a nice horse. We claimed him in New York this spring and ran him a couple of times and he showed up both times. We’re very happy with both of his performances. “We’re going to try some deeper water here in this stakes and see how it goes.” Geroux has the mount from post 3. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! Vance Sprint Flash of Mischief, who ran second to Rated R Superstar in the Governor’s Cup, will cut back to six furlongs for the $150,000 David M. Vance Sprint. He’s part of a diverse group of 10 3-year-olds and up set to start. Mexican Wonder Boy invades off a $25,000 starter allowance at Saratoga for which he earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 103, while Sir Alfred James is looking for his third straight win. He returns to one turn after capturing the $250,000 Russell Road at a two-turn seven furlongs at Charles Town. Macron rates as a top contender as the winner of the Iowa Sprint at Prairie Meadows. He will add blinkers for trainer Steve Asmussen, who has given the mount to Stewart Elliott. It Makes Sense is shooting for his fourth straight win and could get an ideal tracking trip under Jose Alvarez. El Pando won the Clever Trevor last year at Remington. ◗ Remington’s road to the $400,000 Springboard Mile starts with the $75,000 Kip Deville for 2-year-olds at six furlongs, which drew stakes winner Vietnam Victory and possible favorite Roman Giant. The counterpart for fillies is the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial, led by Mor Lively and U Glow Girl. ◗ Lastchanceforlove goes for her third straight win when she runs in the $50,000 Flashy Lady. Cabrera has the mount for trainer Bret Calhoun. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
