The 6-year-old gelding by Texas Red staked his claim Saturday with yet another win over this track, rallying from last to easily win the track’s marquee event, the $50,000 Phoenix Gold Cup. The card was originally slated for March 15, but heavy rains in the area in the days leading up to that resulted in a deteriorating track condition and postponement. From his rail slot Redline ($4.40), owned by Charles Garvey and trained by Robertino Diodoro, made it four wins in as many starts here. As the 6-5 favorite he broke slowly under Orlando Mojica in the six-furlong event, steadily advanced behind sizzling splits, then surging to the lead late to win going away by 2 3/4 lengths. Ruggs ran on for second while Prayer of Jabez stalked and kept on for third in the field of eight. The winner sizzled home, posting a final time of 1:07.36. Kennebec takes Cotton Fitzsimmons Kennebec ($5.60) was already in peak form going into the $50,000 Cotton Fitzsimmons Handicap at a mile on the turf but took his game to a new level with an easy win while setting a new course record in 1:33.75. The Kirk Sutherland-owned and Jose Silva Jr.-trained 7-year-old gelding stalked the pace as the 9-5 favorite, swung out into the lane and powered home to win going away by 2 1/2 lengths under Fausto Da Silva. Saline River rallied for second while Irish Prophet also rallied from well back to get third in the field of seven. Kennebec pushed his career earnings to $369,843 from 13 wins in 38 starts. Bodi Zafa scores Turf Paradise Derby Bodi Zafa ($7), a 3-year-old son of Good Samaritan, stalked and ran on smartly to post an easy three-length win in the $50,000 Turf Paradise Derby. Owned By George Todaro and trained by Wade Rarick, he sat third early in the 1 1/16-mile dirt event, steadily advanced into the far turn under Carlos Montalvo before grabbing the lead and drawing clear late. Wood Ceiling set the pace before finishing second while My Vino rallied from last to get third in the field of five. The final time was 1:42.58 and Bodi Zafa has now earned $91,590 from four wins in six starts. A Thousand Miles upsets Arizona Oaks A Thousand Miles ($11.20) moved back to dirt and flourished as she captured the $50,000 Arizona Oaks. Owned by Bryon Seymore and trained by Bart Hone, the 3-year-old daughter of Thousand Words went right to the lead under Glenn Corbett in the one-mile race, took pressure from Sapello La Fina through fast splits but dispatched that foe turning for home, opening up on her way to a clear 3 1/2-length victory. Two Bar rallied for second while Polythene Pam rallied for third in the field of six. Sayucan, the 1-2 favorite, stalked before tiring to fifth. A Thousand Miles completed the distance in 1:35.14. The winner’s share of $30,500 gives her earnings of $85,160 from three wins in seven starts. Mucho Macho Girl wins Queen of the Green Mucho Macho Girl ($4.20) invaded from Southern California and proved best as the 5-year-old daughter of Mucho Macho Man captured the $50,000 Queen of the Green Handicap. Owned and trained by Leonard Powell she stalked in fourth under Diego Herrera in the one-mile turf event for older distaffers, surged to the lead into the lane before drawing off to win by a cozy 4 1/4 lengths. Flame McGoon stayed on for second while Jamies Inheritance ran on for third in the field of eight.
