Recharge, a Kevin Prendergast-trained son of Cape Cross, caught the favorite at the sixteenth pole and was ridden out by Charlie Hayes for a one-length victory. Sent off at 9-4, Recharge covered the mile on good to firm ground in 1:40.65. The Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial, a Group 3, $87,000 classic prep at seven furlongs for fillies, went to the 7-2 Maoineach by 1 3/4 lengths over Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up Heart Shaped. A Kentucky-bred daughter of Congaree trained by Jim Bolger and ridden by Kevin Manning, Maoineach was timed in 1:27.96 as Chintz, the 2-1 favorite, weakened to finish ninth, 6 1/2 lengths behind the winner.
