Rap Tale didn't run her best in three straight races that were shifted from turf to the main track. When she finally got to run on grass, Rap Tale responded well to the surface. Ridden for the first time by Luis Garcia, the 4-year-old filly Rap Tale ($8) was sent to the front in Saturday night's $50,000 Brookmeade Stakes at Colonial Downs and just held off Deeliteful Star by a head in the one-mile turf race restricted to Virginia-bred fillies and mares. It was the first win in four lifetime starts on grass for Rap Tale, who was back on the turf for the first time since last September after 11 consecutive races on dirt. Trained by Bruce Brown, Rap Tale covered the distance over a firm course in 1:39.85. Deeliteful Star finished 3 3/4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Listentothewindblo. Tropy Collector finished fifth as the 2-1 favorite, the first time she had been worse than third in her seven-race career.
