HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – R Calli Kim, who was entered to run in Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream Park, has been retired from racing after injuring a tendon, trainer Brendan Walsh said Thursday. “It needed time we just don’t have with her,” Walsh said. “It’s a shame. I thought we were going to have a big year with her.” R Calli Kim, a 7-year-old daughter of Revolutionary, had won 9 of 15 career starts and earned $635,640. She is owned by Rich Averill and former major league baseball player Jayson Werth. R Calli Kim had won five of her last six starts including the Grade 3 Long Island at Aqueduct last November and the Grade 3 The Very One at Gulfstream on March 2. R Calli Kim was the morning-line favorite for Saturday’s Orchid. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
