Quickick, the 2-year-old filly who rallied steadily from last to finish third last out in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, likely won’t make her return to the races until sometime in March. Tom Amoss, who trains Quickick for Gregory Tramontin, said Quickick has been turned out for a winter rest and won’t return to serious training until Jan. 1. Quickick got in four starts at age 2, jumping from a third-place debut showing at Saratoga to win a maiden sprint there in her second race. In her third start, she ran against the grain of the Keeneland track, finishing second to BC Juvenile Fillies heroine Immersive, and Quickick, by McKinzie, gives the impression her best has yet to come and that a distance like 1 1/8 miles might suit her. ◗ Jockey Tyler Gaffalione missed all racing last week as he recovers from a fall early in the third race Nov. 16 at Churchill. Gaffalione’s agent, Matt Muzikar, said over the weekend that Gaffalione remained body-sore and was considered “day to day.” ◗ Two Sharp won the Grade 3 Chilukki Stakes on Saturday by 5 3/4 lengths, yet her Beyer Speed Figure, 93, declined from the 96 she’d earned landing a Keeneland allowance race in October. Figures aside, Two Sharp, making only her fifth start, turned heads romping in the Chilukki while barely asked, punching her ticket to the Grade 1 La Brea next month at Santa Anita. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
