HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Promise Keeper held off a fast-closing Seize the Night for a half-length win Saturday in the $150,000 Fifth Season at Oaklawn Park. It was another neck back in third to Silver Prospector. The one-mile race for 4-year-olds and up was run on a sloppy, sealed track. Brigadier General and Nautical Star were scratched from the Fifth Season. Promise Keeper ($16.20) moved to the lead soon after the start after anticipated leader Durante broke in the air and spotted the field several lengths. Promise Keeper set fractions of 24.25 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.97 for the half-mile and 1:13.08 for six furlongs. Promise Keeper then fought off Silver Prospector and held firm over Seize the Knight to cover the distance in 1:40.93.   “I was screaming for that wire to come,” winning rider Harry Hernandez said in a post-race interview broadcast by Oaklawn. Robertino Diodoro trains Promise Keeper for Randy Howg. The son of Constitution was winning his second stakes race, following the Grade 3 Peter Pan in 2021. He is now 4 for 16 with earnings of $442,610. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets.
