Perhaps only a national politician can admire jockey Flavien Prat’s itinerary this week. No athlete has Prat’s schedule in such a short period of time. After riding two winners at Mahoning Valley in Ohio on Monday, Prat had four mounts at Zia Park in New Mexico on Tuesday, finishing second in two stakes. Wednesday was a travel day to Kentucky, where Prat was booked to ride five races on Thursday. From there, Prat is scheduled to have five mounts at Del Mar on Friday and seven on Saturday. He will ride the final day of the track’s autumn meeting on Sunday before going to New York for the first full weekend of December. After all that, Prat plans to return to California, where he will have his normal base at Santa Anita this winter. The Santa Anita winter-spring meeting begins Dec. 26. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! It’s something you appreciate.” Prat, 32, is in the midst of a record-breaking personal year. Through Wednesday, he had won 215 races from 981 mounts earning a personal best of more than $35.7 million in prize money. This is the first year that Prat has cracked the $30 million barrier in earnings. While Prat is highly unlikely to reach Irad Ortiz Jr.’s all-time mark of $39.1 million set in 2023, he will likely be the nation’s leading rider. He also is likely to earn his first Eclipse Award as the nation’s outstanding jockey, an award that has gone to Ortiz in five of the last six years, including the last two. Prat is close to two records. Through Wednesday, he has 77 stakes wins, two less than the record of 79 set by Ortiz in 2022. Prat has won 52 graded stakes, three less than the mark of 55 set in 2003 by Hall of Famer Jerry Bailey. “It’s been a great year,” Prat said. “Everything went well. From the beginning, it’s been a very good season. I had a chance to get on good horses all year long.” Prat’s mounts at Del Mar this weekend include Dicey Mo Chara in Friday’s Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup and three stakes mounts on Saturday – Supa Speed in the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante Stakes for 2-year-old fillies, Redistricting in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap, and Rothschild in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
