ARCADIA, Calif. – Jockey Flavien Prat said he sneaked a peek at the graded handicap in Daily Racing Form on Saturday morning and saw he was favored with eight of his 10 mounts that afternoon at Santa Anita. As the sun set on the day, Prat was celebrating a sensational start to the new year. He won with six of his mounts, the easiest of which came aboard As Time Goes By, who jogged home 13 1/2 lengths best in the Grade 3, $200,000 La Canada Stakes for older females. The La Canada followed a stakes win for Prat on Luck in the Grade 3 Frankel, and preceded a dramatic nose victory in the day’s finale aboard Riding With Dino in a first-level allowance. Of his 10 mounts, Prat had six wins and four seconds. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures.  “I was picked on top almost every race, so I guess I messed up a few,” he said, laughing. “I was picked so much, I had a lot of pressure.” Prat was clearly and understandably thrilled with how the day played out. The only bitter defeat came aboard Beer Can Man in the first of the day’s four stakes, the Grade 2 Joe Hernandez, in which he was nailed in the final stride, a reverse of what happened in the day’s final race. Had he won seven, Prat would have set a personal record for himself at Santa Anita. As it was, this was the third time he has won six on a card here, most recently on March 12, 2021, and before that on May 17, 2020. As Times Goes By was his fifth on the card, and Prat and his mount barely broke a sweat. As Times Goes By sat just off pacesetting Park Avenue in the 1 1/16-mile race, surged past her six furlongs into the race, and widened the rest of the way en route to a lopsided victory. Park Avenue easily held second, 4 1/4 lengths in front of third-place Moonlight d’Oro. Fi F Pharoah was fourth, and Velvet Slippers trailed in the field of five. Cowboys Daughter was scratched earlier in the day. As Time Goes By completed 1 1/16 miles on a fast but dull track in 1:44.31. It was her second straight stakes win. She won the Grade 3 Bayakoa at Los Alamitos Dec. 5. “Last time she dug in,” Prat said. “Today she was outside and gave me a good kick when it was time to go.” As Time Goes By, 5, is by American Pharoah out of the Dehere mare Take Charge Lady, a three-time Grade 1 stakes winner during her career. As Time Goes By is still seeking a Grade 1 win, but she’s now won four graded stakes during a career that has seen her capture six of 13 starts. She earned $120,000 on Saturday and now has career earnings of $655,600. Bob Baffert, who won two stakes Saturday, trains As Time Goes By for the Coolmore team of Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith. As Time Goes By is at her best at Santa Anita, where she has four wins and three seconds in seven starts. But at Santa Anita on Saturday, no one was better than Prat.
