After placing in two Grade 1 races at Saratoga, Maryland-bred Post Time returns to Laurel Park for Saturday’s $100,000 Polynesian for 3-year-olds and up at a one-turn mile. The winner of Laurel’s Grade 3 General George on Feb. 17 and Aqueduct’s Grade 2 Carter on April 6, Post Time rallied for second in Saratoga’s Metropolitan Mile before finishing third in last month’s Whitney. The Grade 1, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile remains under consideration for the 4-year-old Frosted colt, who campaigns for Mrs. Ellen Charles’s Hillwood Stable. Post Time was nominated to next weekend’s $300,000 Parx Dirt Mile, but trainer Brittany Russell opted to race her stable star at Laurel, where he is unbeaten from six starts. “We had a few options but we’re keeping a possible start in the Breeders’ Cup in the back of our minds,” Russell told Laurel track publicity. “It just felt good to give him one at home. I think it’ll be nice not to have to ship him. He’s been banging heads with all the best his last couple runs. Hopefully, we pick his head up and give him a win.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. Post Time should be a prohibitive favorite. He received Beyer Speed Figures of 92 and higher in each of his last six starts. The only other horse in the race to ever reach 92 is Ain’t Da Beer Cold, earning that figure back in 2022. Multiple stakes winner Ain’t Da Beer Cold captured the Native Dancer racing nine furlongs on April 13 at Laurel, but the 6-year-old gelding failed to beat a horse in his last two starts. He did break slowly in those races and can show speed with an alert getaway. Debit Card makes his stakes debut after winning a pair of two-turn sprints at Charles Town. The Russell-trained Frightland makes his stakes debut and might provide some pace. Riccio grabbed the off-turf Find over this course and distance Aug. 18 but also is cross-entered in Saturday’s $100,000 Life’s a Beach restricted starter allowance at Delaware. Curlin’s Malibu completes the field. All Along Stakes It’s class versus upside when Group 3 winner Atomic Blonde squares off with razor-sharp No Show Sammy Jo in the $100,000 All Along for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Although Atomic Blonde has only won once from 11 starts since being imported from Europe and transferred to trainer Christophe Clement, the gray mare kept strong competition, racing in eight graded stakes and placing in half of them. She exits a fifth-place finish in Saratoga’s Grade 2 Glens Falls on Aug. 1. Clement concentrated on longer distances for Atomic Blonde this year, but the 5-year-old has won at seven and eight furlongs overseas and placed in last year’s Grade 2 Canadian the last time she tried nine furlongs. “She’s a good longer mare,” Clement said while attending Keeneland’s September yearling sale. “She’s trained forwardly. I just hope that it isn’t too short for her, but I like the mare.” No Show Sammy Jo steps up into the stakes ranks for the first time, but the lightly raced filly has been unstoppable since finishing fourth in her debut last year, reeling off three consecutive victories for trainer Graham Motion. “She’s always acted like she was a stakes-caliber filly,” Motion said. “She had a little injury last summer. We gave her a lot of time, and she hasn’t done much wrong since. No Show Sammy Jo was a facile winner of a second-level allowance at Colonial three weeks ago. “That’s why I don’t mind running her back quite quickly,” Motion added. “She was up in Saratoga, the race came off the grass a couple of times, so she’s relatively lightly raced this season.” Motion also trains For Flying, unbeaten from two starts since being imported from her native Brazil. Cut From Class earned a stakes placing two starts back over the course and distance when second to the Motion-trained Sparkle Blue in the Big Dreyfus. She’s Dancing, Circle Home, and Blood Orange also entered. Malibu Beauty is a main-track-only entrant. Sensible Lady Turf Dash Clement will be represented by two sharp, late-kicking fillies in the $100,000 Sensible Lady Turf Dash at six furlongs on turf. Love Appeals captured both starts since returning to turf this summer, including a strong win at odds-on in the Incredible Revenge on Aug. 11. Loon Cry also is on a two-race winning streak, only her victories came at Woodbine. She rallied from 10 lengths down to take the Sweet Briar Too there on Aug. 3. “The two fillies have been training great for the sprint,” Clement said. “I like them. They’ve been consistent, improving types. As usual, in a sprint you need some racing luck.” Motion counters with Queen of the Mud, who earned stakes-placings on turf and synthetic in her last two races. She has more tactical speed than the Clement duo and might get the jump on them from tracking range. Motion admitted he was a little disappointed with Queen of the Mud’s runner-up effort in the Satin N Lace on Aug. 19 at Presque Isle. “We thought that was a race she could win,” Motion remarked. “I’m not sure her form carried over to the synthetic, but I like the six furlongs here.” Shoshanah was kicked down by Love Appeals in the Incredible Revenge, but will likely show early zip again along with Ms. Bucchero, who makes her turf debut. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
