ELMONT, N.Y. -- Annapolis and Emmanuel worked a sharp five furlongs in 59.85 seconds over the Belmont Park turf course Friday morning as they prepare for upcoming stakes engagements. While both 3-year-olds are being considered for the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Derby Invitational on July 9, Pletcher said Annapolis is also possible for the $100,000 Manila Stakes at a mile on July 4. Annapolis, winner of the Grade 2 Pilgrim here last fall, finished second in the Penn Mile at Penn National on June 3, a race run over a boggy course. Emmanuel won the Grade 2 Pennine Ridge at 1 1/8 miles here on June 4. “My biggest concern for Annapolis is it’s only his second start off the bench,” Pletcher said. “We’ll see how he bounces out of [the work] and talk to the connections. We could go in the Manila with the idea that could set him for the Saratoga Derby [on Aug. 6]. Emmanuel certainly deserves a try after the Pennine Ridge.” :: Bet the races on DRF Bets! Meanwhile, Pletcher is still working on plans for his bevy of older dirt male runners, including a quartet of them who put in workouts Friday morning at Belmont Park. Happy Saver, second to Flightline in the Metropolitan Handicap, and Fearless, winner of the Grade 2 Brooklyn on that same July 11 card, worked a half-mile together in 50.84 seconds over the training track. The Grade 2 Suburban here on July 9 and the Grade 3, $300,000 Cornhusker at Prairie Meadows the same day are under consideration for both horses. Those same two races are also being considered for Vindictive and Untreated, the second- and third-place finishers from the Grade 3 Pimlico Special on May 21. Those two horses worked together Friday, five furlongs in 1:01.71. “All the horses are doing well. It’s just a matter of getting in the right spot,” Pletcher said. “I think all those horses handle a mile and a quarter no problem. I also think they can be effective at a mile and an eighth. Split them up a little bit and find the best spot for each one.” Pletcher has decided to run Americanrevolution in next Saturday’s Grade 2 Stephen Foster at Churchill Downs. Americanrevolution was fourth to stablemate Dynamic One in the Blame Stakes at Churchill on June 4. Dynamic One is returning to New York to run in the Suburban, Pletcher said. :: Get ready for Saratoga and Del Mar with a Quarterly subscription to DRF Past Performances “We like the idea of going a mile and a quarter in the Suburban and then waiting for the Jockey Club Gold at a mile and a quarter,” said Pletcher, referring to the race scheduled for Sept. 3 at Saratoga. Referring to Americanrevolution’s effort in the Blame, he said, “It was maybe a better race than it looks on paper. He was pretty wide on both turns. Figure-wise it came back solid.” Dynamic One earned a 99 Beyer Speed Figure for the Blame, while Americanrevolution got a 94.
