One More Bid, the winner of the Grade 2 Mathis Mile at Santa Anita in December 2022, died suddenly at Santa Anita on Thursday, according to Jeff Blea, California’s equine medical director. A necropsy will be performed in an attempt to determine a cause, Blea indicated in a text message on Friday. Owned by the partnership of California Racing Partners, Ciaglia Racing, and trainer Ryan Hanson, One More Bid won 2 of 10 starts and earned $262,540. He had one start this year, finishing fifth of 12 in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational at Gulfstream Park in January. One More Bid resumed training in recent months after he was turned out last winter. In a tribute posted on Instagram, California Racing Partners wrote that One More Bid “wasn’t just a remarkable athlete on the track, but a source of joy and inspiration to everyone around him. His playful spirit around the barn will be profoundly missed.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets.
