The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby and the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks will share a card Sept. 30 at Remington Park, the Oklahoma City track announced Saturday. It will be the first graded running of the Remington Park Oaks and the first time more than one graded stakes has been during during the track's meet for Thoroughbreds. The races are part of a schedule of 32 stakes worth a total of $3.7 million for the upcoming meet that opens Aug. 24. The 67-date meet will run through Dec. 16. The Oklahoma Derby, at 1 1/8 miles, and the Remington Park Oaks, at 1 1/16 miles, will again anchor a card of 10 stakes. Other major races on the program will include the $175,000 Governor's Cup for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles and the $150,000 David M. Vance Sprint. The $400,000 Springboard Mile, which for the first time last year carried eligibility points for the Kentucky Derby, is set for Dec. 16. The mile race for 2-year-olds will be part of a closing-day card of six stakes. Other races on the program will include the $100,000 Trapeze, a mile stakes for 2-year-old fillies. The other major stakes card for the meet is the Oklahoma Classics Night program of eight Oklahoma-bred stakes Oct. 19. Purses for the divisional races total $1 million. Remington will open its meet with a stakes this year, as the $100,000 Remington Green for 3-year-olds and up at a mile and an eighth on the grass has been moved to Aug. 24.
